RB20 boost question
Had a quick question regarding my current boost pressure I have on my rb20. The only mods I have power wise are a 3" catless downpipe, hks catback, and a k&n filter. Under load, my boost gauge is reading .7-.8 bar which from a quick google conversion is around 10-11 psi.
Since stock is 7, is there any easy explanation as to why this could be happening? Gauge possibly reading wrong? Checked the wastegate as well, appears to be stock. I want to grab a boost controller, however, would be almost pointless if its really already at 11 and I think stock turbo can take like 12? I'd appreciate any input! Thanks |

I would second that, I did lots of searching on this when I had a R32 gtst, those ceramic turbine wheels wont put up with much more than 12 psi.
I'd check what brand of boost gauge you have and swop it for a known accurate gauge if your in any doubt before you go any further. |

I'm pretty sure it's 7 stock, as that's what the stock gauge reads on my r32 dash.
I'll check the aftermarket gauge out and see if I can get my hands on another one to see if mine is malfunctioning |

N2HIFI, I just read some information confirming your claim that stock is 10psi on another forum. The post was stating that the actuator is set for 10psi, however, without exhaust modifications the boost is restricted to around 6-8psi. Would the downpipe and exhaust explain the increase to 10-11psi that I'm seeing?

Everything I've ever read on the Australian and European boards is that the rb20 is 10 psi stock which is why it's suggested when running a rb25 turbo on a rb20 to put the rb20 actuator on it. Well if the rb25 and rb20 wastegates from factory are both set at 7psi why bother swapping them?
I've done 3 rb20 swaps all with the same setups FMIC, 3" dp and exhaust and all run 10psi all day so I'm going with stock boost on a rb20 is set at 10 psi... Now it would depend on the individual car to see if it can reach 10psi based on what mods it has |
