Ka24de shuts off
So I have a 92' hatch, with a ka24de that keeps shutting off on me. The car will be driving fine then the damn thing will shut off.. Like completely lose all power. No shaking or nothing. Then it won't start for anywhere from 2 seconds to 30 min. This happens sometimes 1 time a week, to 5 times a day. I need some helpppp!!
What I have done: New distributor New cap, rotor, plugs and wires Swapped ecu's Swapped ignition coil New maf New tps Last edited by ferrero; 08-06-2013 at 07:26 PM.. |

You check all your ground points?? Battery ground, alternator, engine block to firewall ground....
How bout the ECU? You put it into Diagnostic Mode to see if it's kicking a code? If your car cuts completely out like you say it does, then you have either a cut power wire OR a bad ground. You might have to break out the multimeter / voltmeter / continuity tester to check all the power & ground lines. Download a Factory Service Manual here from Zilvia. Use the SEARCH function to find it. Use the electrical circuit map in the manual to trace all the lines / pins. Troubleshooting electrical problems are a royal bitch.... Good luck ID PS: Just out of curiosity, is your car lowered or have big tires?? If it is lowered or have big tires, you may have shorted out your wires in the front driver fender liner....that can cause your car to cut out on you.

if its the same as the s13 turn your car on to the last position just befor you start on the back of the ecu you should see a dial turn it all the way to the right and you should start to see blinking lights

Yes my car is lowered and on 18's. but I do not rub anywhere, I checked all y ground points on the engine and harness, I also put a new alternator. A buddy of mine who is a local mechanic and also owns a 240, told me to wiggle my engine harness to see if I have a possible short. Nothing. Not a sputter. Just for shits and giggles I replaced the knock sensor last night. On all data at my friends shop 6 out of 10 repairs where the tps. I'm running our of options
Il go check my codes and post my findings |

Yes. I do get fuel, I have constant fuel pressure running, and when I spin the motor over when it shuts off.
I ran the diagnostic setting on my ecu and it flashed code 55. Which to my knowledge is a all clear code. Correct me if I'm wrong |

yes code 55 means nothing going on, this happened to my bro s14 a while back .. ended up being a faulty fuel pump (we even replaced it to find out it was the "new" pump at fault) one moment it would run like a champ .. next the damn thing wouldnt turn over ..

I have noticed that when it dose shut off, if I have someone with me ill have them turn the motor over. Then ill pull the plug from the ignition coil to the distributor and hold it away. But far enough that it will ark, with no spark. I've done this a couple times. And sometimes when I do it on the 3rd or so rotation of the engine it will jump the gap and fire up. The other times it will do nothing. This is why I believe it's something to do with spark.
Now I have replaced the distributor with a brand new one. And the ignition coil with a spare I had laying around My friend told me to check my engine harness for splits, so I shook it like a mad man and it did not kill the engine. I also threw a old ecu in that has been ran in the car and it had a code21. I have no clue if it was a old code or one from my engine. So I cleared it. Once it cuts off again I will re check the codes to see what pops up |
