I used to be pretty bad with road rage, did all the things that you guys have already said about hitting the brakes etc etc to discourage tailgaters. Ive been driving for work now for 7 years and none of it phases me anymore. When people want to merge I let them, if they want to pass I let them.... I just got tired of fighting it everyday.

I do still occasionally downshift on the #### tailgaiters though, if they catch me when I am pissed off, but other than that I get out of peoples way and drive as considerate as I can.

The main thing I hate are people who dont understand the concept of the passing lane. Just because you are driving 10 miles an hour over the speed limit does NOT mean you belong in the passing lane when someone going 30 miles over the speed limit comes along.
GET OUT OF THE WAY FOR THEM!!!!
When someone faster comes along, YOU become the person that the sign "Slower traffic keep right" is refering too!

IMO, I think the stubborn drivers that wont get out of peoples way, try to block them, etc etc are the ones that are causing accidents, not the people who are driving fast. I used to do it too just to piss off the guy driving like an ####### until I messed with the wrong guy one day and he showed me his piece.. scared the shit outa me. But as stated above, it must be an ego thing that people dont like to be passed so if someone driving faster comes along they feel the need to try and slow them down.....grrrrrr. That crap drives me crazy.

---Rant mode off---

Ive got highway driving down to a science at this point in my life, but some people are just completely clueless.

Amen :-)

I've probably had more highway driving experience in my scant three years than most others do in twice that, some 50,000 miles going back and forth to Reno, 90 miles a day. Needless to say, mrace hit it right on the nose. You get over that shit, think "####, what was kinda stupid" and move on.

Don't you wish everybody drove as well as we do?

I wouldn't personally say I get road rage. Sure I get pissed when someone almost hits me (happens quite often around here during tourist season), but if I'm on the highway and someone passes me it doesn't really tick me off. I mean... if they're drivin a sporty car and look like they wanna have some fun I might play around a bit, but it's not like getting passed bothers me.

What does bother me is when people have their high-beams on and are right on your ass. That's f'n annoying, and it's dangerous because if it hits the mirrors right it could blind you. Situations like that piss me off, but that's someone just being an #######.

Careful with cars that try to race you on the highway and then stay just behind you. They may be provoking you into a race to get you to drive faster and bait the state troopers on the road. You get pulled over and they go whizzing by.

Yup, I usually ignore the bastards that ride my bumper.

What I do to really aggressive ones is hit the brakes and heeltoe out very quickly. Scares the crap out of em because for a split second, my car drops back fast. What I don't get is why people tailgate if there's a big ugly slow construction vehicle in front of you! That truck isn't going to go fast and you can't go any faster. What is tailing gonna do? And why would you tail in an area as litigious as mine? Everyone knows that if you ram up my tailpipe, I haven't done anything and you're in deep. Just like S13grl says... new body kit!

Also, what about the folks that don't understand a quick flash of high beams means either go faster or get out of the way??

On another note, its never the people in sports cars driving fast that bother me. Its the people in the minivans, econo-boxes, or SUV's that are hauling ass that scare me enough to get far far away from them.
It doesnt bother me to see a vette scream by at 100mph, because that car was built to do that, has tires rated for it, has brakes designed to stop at those speeds, has suspension to keep it on the road etc etc.

I just dont understand these people that think their '87 Ford Escort with blown out suspension and pos Wallmart tires can sustain 90mph on the highway. And SUV's and minivans sure as #### werent designed for it and do not come with tires with a high enough heat index rating to sustain it anyway.

People that car illiterate should not be allowed to have a license imo

Personally I think everyone that buys a car should be required to take that car onto a skid pad and observe its limitation LOL wouldnt that be a hoot!

I'm kinda for different tests for different speed limits. I have takes a more than a few days in Sebring at a race school, and I feel I am a safer driver at 110 on the highway than the Metro that's passing me. Different color license plates for different speed limits that apply only to you.
This would make a red lane, for grannys, sh!t-boxes, and blind people. Normal speed limit.
Yellow lane, people who have cars designed for the slightly faster speed. Everyone MUST do that lane's speed limit or move to the right, NEVER to the left.
and
A Green lane, for those of us who pass the most extensive license test, and can go 30, 40 over without missing a beat, and cars up to par.
This would allow red plate people to be ticketed for going into the yellow lane and a separate ticket for speeding over the red lane speed limit.
Ahh.. what I would do if I were King.

Don't discount a vehicle just because it looks unweildy. I've spent lots of time on the interstate doing 90 to 100mph in my S10 Blazer. It handles very well and I am quite confident about weaving through slower cars at those speeds on an interstate. 90 mph just isn't that fast for most vehicles on an interstate or major highway. It's not like a road racing course or something. Actually, I feel much safer driving it (not because of some delusional myth about safety of SUV's) just because I've had it much longer than my 240 and I've pushed it close to its limits on a regular basis. It's just very predictable for me.

Heh, if your car is a sleeper, why dont u try to make a full box around his car? Start by letting him pass by, move over two lanes, accelerate, cut him off and end up where you started. Of course thats pretty dangerous, but hey heh I bet you anything he/she will be pretty peeved off. =)

Im not 100% sure on this, but I think the S10 Blazer was built right off the truck platform with no real difference in the suspention. Most trucks have stiffer suspension than SUV's, thats one reason why you dont see trucks flipping over all the time. They put a softer suspension on the SUV's so that they ride more like a car. Ive seen more upside-down SUV's in the middle of SR60 or I75 than I could even begin to count, prolly one a week on avg. And if I had a dollar for every time an SUV almost rear-ended me Id be a rich man.
Have you ever seen a Land Rover swerve to avoid road debris at 90mph? LoL Ive seen one up on 2 wheels before and it had to be dumb luck this guy didnt wreck.

I guess I should clarify, instead of generalizing. Some SUV's are probably Ok at high speeds, but alot of them arent, particularly the more luxury type models. Most all of the American SUV's are built right off a truck platform and have not lost the "utility" in SUV The same cant be said for Lexus and Mercedes, BMW etc etc.
My buddy's Jeep Cherokee, the older style type, is the same way as your S10. Its an SUV with stiff suspension and feels pretty safe even at high speeds.
But I would sure hate to have to make a hasty stop, or a quick swerve to avoid hitting something in most SUV's.

I've got aftermarket shocks but even the stock shocks were pretty stiff. The ride is by no means comfortable, meaning soft. My definition of comfortable is something that won't roll the body excessively during a hard corner. I could care less about bouncing over pot holes. I'm still at stock height because I like to offroad some but the tires will break loose before the body rolls much.

Yeah GT sticking up for the s10!
I too have an s10, I had it since HS. Man I love it. I definately drive faster in the blazer than the s10. I lowered it 3 inches, and put low pros on it, and it handles ok for a truck. I took it some of my to new orleans for mardi gras, I Doubt I going less than 95 the whole back. That 4.3 is really nice. It depends more on the driver than his car!

S10's are pretty good trucks. Cheap, easy to work on, reliable, decent power. Sorry, I didn't mean to turn this thread into a defense of SUV's. I just get tired of people ragging on them. People talk about how inferior the technology is and how easy they roll over but mine has been great to me.

hehe, funny story. i was coming back one night after partying with my friends. i got off the freeway and was heading towards an intersection. my light turned green, so i rolled through, but this dumbfuck in a '99 Grand cherokee cut me off. it was soooo whack, i almost hit a parked prelude while swerving out of the way. anyway, i got on his ass, chirped him a couple of times, threw the high beams, and passed him. at the next intersection, i was supposed to go straight, but i came to a stop, waited for him, and then turned right from the middle of the intersection. i followed him down the hill when he turned on some orange lights that were on his hatch. i got fuckin scared, cause they looked a lot like undercover cop lights, blinking really fast and shit. no problem though. i fell back, then i threw up my 20 dollar magnetic strobe "cop" light from fry's, came with sirens and flashers ablazing, and pulled his ass to the side of the road. yes, revenge is a dish best served cold. hehe.

I hate it when your on the motorway and you see cars going along in the middle or fast lane when there`s almost no-one about. On 2 occasions i swear i`ve been tearing along and i can see 1/3 mile ahead a car in slow lane pull into the middle lane as if its overtaking but there`s no car there but him!

easy system to get rid of people behind you.
1. Open sun roof - venting WONT work
2. Remove pennies from where ever you keep them - mine are in the ash tray
3. violently chuck them up through the roof one at a time - this will make them hit the car behind you
4. repeat as necessary

this will work trust me people are like what the f*** and move over or slow down

oh and mrace240 its not that pickups have stiffer springs its that the back end is lighter cause it doesnt have the exrtra wheight from the roof and everything that the suv has. plus its a much shorter wheelbase and a helluva lot lighter than the suv.
