Thanks again for all the respect guys.
I am fortunate enough to have access to a full fabrication shop and was able to replicate this Racepak mounting bracket and get a few pieces made on a CNC plasma. I also went back and added over 20 new pictures of specific things you guys have asked for - let me know if there is anything you guys would like to know more about or see more detailed pictures of. Thanks, Chad

I pulled all the interior bits including the headliner and rear view mirror for this car and had the bar basically touching the roof. The headliner was not important to me in this case.

It was actually just a blend of gunmetal and dark grey that we had left over in the shop, it has a gold flake in the sunlight too, something I haven’t been able to catch on camera yet.

Thanks for all the comments, I have learned so much while doing this build!
I took some time while breaking down the chassis harness, to make a few block off plates and a switch panel tucked inside the arm rest. I think nothing in the cockpit is so clean.

Still need to remove the ignition and clean the inside out before I paint all the white parts again.
I also finally got around to patching my passenger side rocker which needed a little TLC. Cut the rust off and bent these patches out of 16g, but after a few quick tacks we just decided to replace the entire section on both sides. My neighbor helped make some tabs for my license plate The fuel cell is not sitting level in the picture because there was a box underneath from earlier, but the straps were done and I just needed to get some threaded rod to tie them down and add a new jack point.

Hey, I just wanted to ask what you do for a living?
I just switched my major in college from Biology to Mechanical engineering and I was wondering how you were designing everything. Are you using Autocad or solidworks? Are you just doing it the old fashioned way and just taking measurements and doing math? Are you just welding shit together? I'm curious on how you learned to do everything you are doing. The fabrication work in here is top notch dude. |

To answer your question, I would say I have used all the tools you mentioned, CAD and solidworks have helped me design and cut various pieces for this car from my Racepak bracket, and block off plates to heat shields and mounting brackets. I am familiar with these programs from school but they are also very easy to learn for first timers. Definitely not just welding shit together, math is very important. Measure twice cut once everyone knows, I have re done most of the car since first starting this build, the first time is always the guinea pig, the second time around you learn tricks, what works better etc. Learning to TIG and MIG weld over the last few years has really let me get creative with this car, if you can visualize what you are trying to accomplish and take your time, you can get it right. My car is by far perfect and there will always be room for improvement, and things to learn.

I think my car is pretty much rust free now. I am trying to paint the inside in the next 2 weeks and have everything back assembled really soon, but Canada is so damn cold!

Honestly, for as many terrible terrible terrible 240's out there, there are quite allot of stellar projects going on as well. This is one of those projects.

Build looks pretty amazing dude. Very nice work. Subscribed for more updates.
Also would you be able to tell me what material this is that you are using to make the block of plates and switch panel? Thanks

Thanks, yeah I basically couldn't for the life of me think of the name for the stuff so my google searching was coming up empty. Found some and made an order already. Thanks for the reply.

Love the switch panels, and the rear quarter windows.
I may have to copy those rear quarter windows. Any idea how much weight was saved with them? Are they water tight?
