sr transmission problem

I have s13 coupe with redtop and its been making grinding noise every once a while in 1st gear and reverse. I put the car in gear no problem. as I release my clutch it makes grinding noise not the gears it self but feels more like clutch fork touching something. but the catch is it ONLY does this when I start to move the in 1st gear and reverse. I have light weight flywheel and act stage 2 clutch.
any ideas!?

Did you torque the flywheel bolts? One may have backed out and the sound is your clutch hitting the backed out bolt. Sounds unlikely, but it happened to me.

sorry but the transmission has to be dropped.

drain your fluid and look for chunks of metal or flakes in the gear oil.

crack the tranny open bellhousing to the rest of the case. Inspect the gears, inspect the shift forks. inspect the clutch as well!!
