can you guess whats wrong?

ok so my brother owns a '91 Honda Accord (I know, I know, not a Nissan but just hear me out). so it has this problem, while driving the car, the stereo and gauges shut off, and the car just sputters in first gear and wont shift higher. he replaced the battery but its still doing the same thing. does anyone know what the problem might be. btw, he already had the charging system and alternator checked. does anyone know what the problem might be?
