I want to get a short throw shifter and a new shift knob. what do all of you have? if you have pictures i'd love to see them. I looked a lot online at momo shift knobs but it is hard to tell what they would actually look like in the 240,, and about the short throw shifter, i read a post a lil while back about the obx one breaking, i dont' want that to happen, so i'm ready to spend the extra on a nismo one, where can i find one? and where can i find diretions since i hear they r all in japanese. thanks again guys and girls.. i'd be lost without you

I've heard that the Nismo short shifter doesn't really improve the distance in throws much more than the stock unit. The OBX shifter has its' problems, but I think that's the one I'm gonna go with....might want to wait on the new B&M shifter soon to come out...

i agree with hondakilla as to waiting for the b&m as for the shift knob i personally like the ones that look like balls (dont get the wrong idea perverts!) i like the carbon fiber look cause it matches the inside of my car

I have an OBX s.s. and a Greddy shift knob. It looks really nice. I'll post a pic soon. I like Greddy because it fits each application type, no plastic adapters and crap, just screws right on. And as the OBX s.s. it did come apart on me from the bushing, but all I did was super-glue it and its just like new. When I say it comes apart, I don't mean your driving along and it falls off. It won't actually come off unless you yank really hard. It didn't even come of when I was power shifting my way to beating my buddie's Civic Si. But I superglued it anyway. Just in case.

Hey AJ,
I don't have a s.s. however I did put a "momo race" shifter knob on (black leather top, red metal bottom, to match the car). Just the knob was enough to cut the height of the shifter down by an inch or two. It looks and feels great too. However I am curious about my240likenoother not liking his short shifter, why? |

I have a RÄZO gearknob, which I bought in Hong Kong. RÄZO is a japanese brand from the CARMATE company, which specializes in car accessories.
I would have gone for the Nismo one, but it cost up to twice and four times as much as my RÄZO one... Here's a pic of it, the knob is kinda high on the stick, but that was before I fixed it. Turns out, I used the wrong adapterpiece for it.

|

my obx came apart in normal driving. I too superglued it, but still, it sucks. I also had to get a new bushing from nissan to make it fit. Stay away from obx. Plus, there really isnt much of a difference in throw IMHO.

AJ,
I went with the "RACE" shifter. Check it out at momo's web site. You also don't need to buy a new boot. Mine was all torn up around where the old shifter was. and it hung down to low, exposing the metal shifter (like the above picture). I set mine up so the leather around the shifter is in good condition and so that no metal is showing. I've just moved to a new place, so I'll have to dig up the picture and scan it to show you. Let me know if any of this interests you. Ben |

I really like the MOMO combat or MOMO cobra shift knobs. But I am stuck with my stupid slush-box with that stupid black thing that I don't know how to change.
If anyone knows how to change the auto knob... LET ME KNOW!!! -Jeff |

i did konkman, ,thanks a million too,, that gives me a real good idea on what i want myself i appreciate that man.. I'm still trying to decide what color to get, because i'm not sure how i'm going to color coardinate my interior.. hehee.. on a green blue car, it makes it more difficult then a black or white car... Also, does anyone know about new boots and if they fit universaly or if they have to be a certain size? mine is a lil ragged,, i'd like a new one

the momo boots require some cutting. I recommend looking around for a direct replacement

i actually managed to get one to fit from a 2001 civic i found at the junkyards. I've always loved momo shift knobs. I was alsot wondering can u just cut the stock shifter a lil bit to make it shorter? or is it actually something else to reduce the throws?

I've known a couple guys who have cut another inch or so from their short shifters....propably gonna do the same when I get mine...
I think it was a couple months ago when I first saw the listing for the B&M shifter in the Summit Import catalog, and then the following month it wasn't listed....hhmmmmm? I'll check out the website! |

Momo makes a connector ring that fits their knobs (of course) but is extremely hard to install. Their boots suck ass when it comes to installation, the rubber part on the bottom of the boot probably needs to get cut to fit perfectly. It's a lot harder to put onto an S14 than onto S13s.
OBXs suck, that's why they are so cheap. I don't know if you guys heard of Non Fujita (with the black S14a). He has this adjustable one which costs some 300-400 and is really dope. He has his import store, I'm sure he carries it. |

I'm considering just cutting my stock shifter down an inch - inch and 1/2 and c how it feels.. Also, is there anythign else you can do to the linkage or tranny to make it tighter? I drove my friends z28 with a hurst shifter (tranny is the same as the viper and corvette) and the #### this is AWESOME... it slides into every gear so perfectly. I can' explain it. But i want mine to be like it. Just a thought, let me know if any of u have any ideas, thanks again. -AJ
