stock 6 bolt -> 5 bolt vlsd help

So I have a stock open diff in my 89 that has 6bolt axles. I bought a 5 bolt vlsd and it came with the whole pumpkin and the inner 5 bolt axles. What can I do to this this to work aside from buying 5 bolt outer axles? Is it possible?

its better to buy the axles, unless you want to take apart your pumpkin to swap out the 5 bolt to the 6 bolt.

I don't mind doing that to save time and money. What's involved exactly?

You can swap out the half shafts on the VLSD from 5 bolt to 6 bolt ones if they match up. Only way to tell is by taking them out (beat mine out with a hammer & pry bar) other than that i believe some are interchangeable form 5 to 6 bolt IIRC don't quote me on that tho.

Also make sure if you do take them out not to mix them up because each half shaft is a different length so keep them separate it will help you alot when you put it back together

To save time and money, it will be cheaper and less time consuming to just get j30 axles. You can not convert a 5 bolt vlsd into a 6 bolt, the spline lines are different and can not be swapped

I'm pretty sure I won't find any axles here. There's only like 20 240s in the state. Man so I HAVE to get new axles? That sucks the guy I bought it from said it would work. Lame
