doing lots of research on this a couple years ago, i found that there are companies building 88mm non sleeved engines with no problems. one dude was building 87.5 turbo apps and wasnt having any problems either. a few machine shops said that with the thickness of the stock cylinder walls, they didnt see a problem with an 88mm piston. i have 87mm cp pistons, no sleeves and a cosworth hg. im running 15lbs of boost until it breaks in. i dont foresee any problems with it either.

I finished my sr20det rebuild a few months back. Stock rebuild so couldn't help you with the piston/sleeve question but I went with the apex hg. After all the searching and calling people it was the best option in my opinion, but I'm a self taught wanabe mechanic and this was my first engine tear down/rebuild, didn't think to have the oil pump/timing chain milled down with block either, but so far so good. I also didn't use the copper spray adhesive stuff either, seemed that stuff is hit or miss depending on who you talk to. Its your head gasket, don't cheap out on it, or you'll be doing it all over again. good luck.

go with cosworth. I've had 3 and not one gave me problems on my 400whp SR. (3 completely different engines). as a matter fact, i reused one, one time and thats the one i made 400whp with. its cheeper than apexi and its a great product.
