Dio's Fairleighty Build
I figured it was time I started a build thread about my drift car. The SR that is coming out of my car has seen its fair share of ins and outs, but this will be its final and then its on to its new home.
This has been 2+ years coming and Ill try to save you the headache of the complete timeline, but below you can find the major points, highs and lows, and where this is going. After I hit a few open drift events in 2011 and got my learn on from a lot of the local guys at the track I felt it was time to compete. Thanks to all my great sponsors I was able to make that happen. We started the year at a rainy, cold, wet open drift event at Evergreen Speedway in WA. What a way to drive this track the first time. A wall had recently been installed on the 3/8's bank which has never existed in the past - so it was something new and something to think about. All and all we made it through the season, had our share of incidents with blown diffs, couplers, etc, but the car is pretty well put together at this point and is currently in a big transition. Out with the SR and onto the VQ35DE! Forum Fest 2010 Prior to this event the SR was swapped out of my Coupe and into the Hatch. The build officially began! Origin Overfenders Car was backed into twice during my lunch break one day, by two different people so we threw on the inevitable overfenders REBUILD #1 Spun a rod at an Open Drift Event. Full rebuild top to bottom, using stock internals w/ ACL Bearings. New everything, aside from the rods and pistons. (more on that later) REBUILD #2 After the motor was dropped back in the car and ran very well for a couple of weeks, drove it for about 500 miles and took it to another drift event and had another engine failure. Once the motor was completely tore down we realized the crank shaft had a slight crack in it that the machine shop didnt catch. This time we threw in a brand new OEM Crankshaft, new ACL Bearings, New OEM Rods, all from nissanparts.cc March 31st 2012 The car seen its first track action of 2012 and the motor ran smoothly with no hiccups, but nearing the end of the day the S14 T28 Turbo decided it was done. After this incident we upgraded to the S15 T28, along with a Stance Clocking Kit, and we were off! August 26th 2012 The final competition day at Evergreen Speedway and we unveilved the freshly wrapped car. Thanks to Fusion Graphix and Bruce Titus Auto Group (nissanparts.cc). September 7th - Nissan & Mitsubishi Meet & Show 2012 The 16" Wheels were swapped out in favor of 18" 350Z Wheels and 5-Lug Conversion wrapped in Achilles Rubber. Forever Powder Coating came on board and coated 2 sets of wheels for the car. (will update with better pics of the job they did later) CURRENT The car is currently in my garage, tore apart on jack stands being prepped for its new heart transplant. The SR20DET is going into another one of our cars. Right now I am currently working on the wiring harness, sourcing a few odds and ends, and then the motor goes in. I will update this post with a complete mods this very soon. Tons of new updates coming in very soon!

VQ Mounts
The VQ has been sitting in my garage for almost a full year and should be dropping in very soon. Im not planning on doing much to this motor in the beginning. If anything a new plenum and maybe cams. Had a chance to put the SR through its paces one last time at PARC in Oregon several weeks back. This also gave me a chance to get the feel for more rubber under the car, which was a nice change. Should be a good weekend to work on the car so I should have some more updates coming through.

Sorting out the wiring for the VQ.
Im planning on posting a how-to as soon as we get the harness finished, installed, and tested. Pulled the SR out this morning. Motor is out - time for a rinse down. Long day, but the VQ is in the car.

Ended up getting a good amount of work done on the car this weekend before starting on my teamates car for his 1JZ Swap.
Wiring should begin shortly as I just received my 350Z Accelerator Pedal & Sensor w/ Pigtail. Ended up getting this from Feltons Auto Parts here in Washington - they are a great source for used Nissan/Datsun Parts if you ever need anything. Should be receiving an OBD II Plug tomorrow.

I received another package of goodies from Feltons Auto Parts today. Looks like I should be able to start on the wiring harness this weekend and hopefully work out some of the other questionable things.

Can you take a shot of where your oil pan is in relation to your crossmember? I'm curious where it sits height wise.
Also, stick with a plenum spacer if anything, I haven't found an aftermarket plenum that makes more power than the stock with a spacer besides the MREV 2 lower plenum.

So. Currently I'm waiting on my ECU before I can do anything else for those of you out there that think I gave up . This build thread will go all the way through. Still have parts rolling in. If you're bored.. you can always watch this South Sound Speedstars video that was JUST released. Me and Erich Hagen down at PARC Go kart track in Canby, Oregon.
Enjoy!

When I received my package originally one of the mounts had a horrible finish on it. It was all chipped off and I contacted them. They were easy to deal with and swapped it out for one with a good finish on it. Hopefully they hold up and serve me well.
