5-Speed Swap - Violent Shaking
So here goes:
Did a 5-Speed swap on my recently acquired 95 240 w/ ka. Everything went pretty smooth, automatic stuff came out, new clutch w/ lightweight flywheel went in. Transmission went in, pedal install, etc etc. Clutch bled fine, car goes into all gears just fine. PROBLEM: Intermittently the car will shake violently when I push the clutch in. Not as soon as I push the pedal, but shortly after. At first I thought it was only when the car was in neutral, but it also does it in other gears as well. If I push the transmission into another gear, the shaking will almost always abruptly stop.. Car drives fine, but the shuddering/shaking had me park it back in the carport Thoughts? Clutch? Pedal adjustment? Ran out of daylight so shoot me some ideas. The transmission had unknown history and even sat at my house for like a month or two. |

^That's a good start. Happened 2 me. But only at +45mph in gear or neutral. Turned out 2 be the support bearing.

^ this. there is an adapter in the crankshaft thats gotta come out when switching from auto to manual. easiest way to get it out is to pack the cavity full of grease, put the clutch alignment tool into the hole, and whack it with a hammer a couple times, which will push the adapter out, then use brakecleaner to remove all the grease. also did u use "MT" bolts on the flywheel and not the "AT" ones? the auto trans bolts are to short and dont engage properly and can come loose. its also a good idea to locktite them. did u reinstall the metal dustshield between motor/trans? it thats missing it can also cause issues
if u are in neutral with clutch pushed in and it does it, does the car seem to move forward? if so it could be the clutch slipping from not fully disengaging, which would be air in the system or the pedal not adjusted properly

Also check your input bearing for the diff. And any kind of movement that comes from the rotating assemble. Not sure if it's the exact problem that you're having but if you give it alittle gas does it vibrate at first then stop?

It vibrates only on the decel and mostly only when I put the clutch in while rolling.
This is why i think it might be something with the driveshaft area as I'm taking the load off the driveshaft by pushing the clutch in and maybe that's causing the issue to show it's face? BTW, when this monster shaking happens, I don't feel any of it in the pedal.. Can't pick up the driveshaft till Friday probably, so I'll have to wait to see |

Having the exact same issue with recent manual swap. Bad vibrations at certain speed and on decel with clutch in. Just ordered a 1 piece driveshaft today from z1 motorsports (in GA), but wont see it til next thurs or friday.
Thinking its harmonic vibrations from shot carrier bearing creating out of balance situation. Lol, just add it to the stuff i replaced already, front and rear trans seals, new clutch, new short shifter, pilot bearing, new slave, new clutch master, and new SS braided line for master direct to slave. Whats next, lol. Shifts really nice now(surprise! lol) I think the car will be all new by the time i'm finished.

UPDATE: I picked up the 1 piece drive shaft last night and put it in this morning.
#1:I already knew my carrier bearing was of the janky variety #2:I noticed that the seal plate at the base of yolk that seals against the transmission was getting cut/grooved AT LEAST 1/8" and had slung black residue onto my transmission tunnel. With my new drive shaft, I have ZERO VIBRATIONS, and it drives great. I'll post some pictures here in a minute. |

Holy crap, it just showed up at my house. I just ordered it the other day!!!!
Thanks Fedex, not like sh*tty UPS, that screws us over with huge "brokerage fees" at the border.
