It is funny that every japanese person I know is incredibly smart, smarter than me. But they all act like I am somehow better than them.
I am a rapper, and I have two Japanese friends who wont even call me up because thuy think I am too cool. I have to call them or just run into them on the street. Trust me, rapping does not make you that cool. That is just a little beyond humility. And on top of that I really like to talk to one of them because he knows everything about silvias. His dad owns one in Osaka. Very silly.

Japanese culture is WEIRD. Of course, we all have to be culturally sensitive in this day and age of globalization, but seriously... they are a STRANGE people.
I think the only thing I like about their culture is... actually I don't think I like too much about their culture. I like a couple of their cars and their tuning know-how and drift skills, but I don't think I'd go so far as to say that's an integral part of Japan as a culture. oh yeah, Japanese chicks are ugly. I see how some people may think they're cute, but... no... |

I've resisted this topic, but the point about weird old men is too much.
Weird: I had a friend several years ago (guy in his 20's working for the US branch of a bank his father was a big wig at) who used to collect "business cards" (business sized cards w/ 1" photo stickers and a cell phone #) for different girls he had "seen." It was a hobby. Weirder: The fact that it took 30 years for birth control pills to be legalized and about 4 months for Viagra to be legalized. Not that anyone would try to keep women down and men... err... up. Weirdest: The law that states if an older man is caught with an underage female prostitute, the girl will be jailed for seducing and cheating the older man. The man will get a warning about such girls. Those 40 year old men really need protection from teenage girls -- they just take advantage of EVERYONE! |

There are lots of things funny about Japanese society. I have long been fascinated by the funny things they print on their t-shirts, like, “Lets do sports!!” I have often been amazed at the misspelled English words on signs and such. I also, in the past found it quite humorous that they eat raw fish.
That being said….I think there are probably even MORE things that they fine humorous about us!! I received a t-shirt from my bro-in law for Christmas. It is an Indiana University t-shirt with Japanese Kanji on it. I assumed it said “Indiana University” in Kanji as it did in English. Being a native Hoosier I wore it with pride. A Japanese friend informed me that it said, “Peace love power!” I guess I know look at their t-shirts a little differently. Also…we laugh at the funny things in Japanese society…BUT do you ever stop and consider that THEY have one of the highest literacy rates in the world? MUCH higher, in fact, than the US! This is a nation that, at the end of WWII was virtually BANKRUPT! They now are a world leader in commerce! And WE laugh at THEM!!?? I think they laugh at us a lot!! And some of you guys think my sig is offensive?? |

Whoa that is some sick stuff. Where did you find that law about the teenagers and old men? And that group? that is sick. But about being "They now are a world leader in commerce!" the fact is that US money went into the Japanese Economy and the fact that they are servents to us (no offense im getting to the point). Japan exports more goods than it imports. Thus throwing off the economy. Who do they export to? Us. So they are a world leader in commerce because we want their electronics b/c sadly US made stuff is crap. But ohh well thats way off topic but just wanted to give my 3 cents. Ohh and whats up with them in songs using english than going back to japanese quickly? thats like Rammestein going from German to english for Fire Fire and back. Crazy.

Uh - Occupied history aside, they've been in recession for what is it, 11 STRAIGHT YEARS now? Granted they are the No. 2 economy, but this ain't 1983-90. I'd say "powerhouse" is a bit strong for a country that is can't decide whether to keep crony-ist kierestus around or actually move to a full market economy.
Historically, there are some nations that just rise to the top. Germany, UK, and Japan are among them (I think the US has earned a spot on that list). Accordingly, I'm hardly surprised that Japan has returned to its former glory. Keep in mind that, in modern history, Japan was the strongman of Asia until it dragged the US into WWII. (I just wonder how it would feel, as a citizen, to go from the powerhouse of a region to poverty and reconstruction?) and JBM - it isn't b/c they are better, it is b/c they are cheaper. How many US make electronics are there on the market? Few - most of which reside in high end stores. |

Tru that about electronics. I mean they make electronics better than the US because that is what their main economy sector, unlike the US which is widespread. Ohh and I will rephrase the servants thing i said. I meant that we need them they need us relationship. But its all cool I am trying to plan a trip in my lifetime, it will be great.

then i guess it's an asian thing. i never smile for any picture except for when it's with asian chicks.
btw, they may be skinny, but it makes it easier to carry 'em. and the skinny ones are usually more flexible.

And of course a girl from Japan probably won't know what a 240SX is! It's not called a 240 in Japan, it's a silvia or a 180.

I did a little reading on Japanese culture/history recently. I find their history very interesting.
Basically they were a feudal society up until the 1700. They repelled the outside world. Until the US forced there harbors open. Eventually they were fascinated with the rest of the world. They send students all over the world so they can "learn" from the different countries. They basically adapted, ways of governing, military and education system in to their own. They eventually become a regional powerhouse. Enough they thought they could challenge USA. Of course they lost. One the reason they lost besides midway. IMHO they didn't have immense natural recourses that the USA has. They’re an Island country; no way they could support large-scale industries like the US. Which is why the invaded parts of china. They lost WW2 but they sure won the commerce war. Must of been some sort national consensus, But they turned around a crippled country into high technology power house. You can say the USA help in that matter put, the USA didn't hold their hands all the way. I think their extremely dedicated society helped allot in this respect. What trying to say is that their society help them over adversity time and time again. I think 3rd world countries could learn from Japan's upbringing. From a late feudal society in the 1700's, to an economical power in 2003. Not many countries have done this. Despite this they need to be more active in foreign affairs. They will never truly gain international recognition until they break out of their shell. They way I see it Japan always been a rather closed country. They’re reluctant to outside influences. They even scowled at there current generation of kids for being selfish (American my way-ism at work here). They always have to make sacrifices for the good of the whole not the individual. Which is why work/school related stress is high in Japan. Anyways I know I said allot. But I just wanted to give insight on what I learned recently. Thank you have a nice day.
