Any reason you can think of hatches having a benefit? I would imagine it adding to the CG and whatnot

i read this http://www.worldrallychampionship.ne...?id_display=19
Bodyshell The new Ford Focus RS WRC 06 is based on the Focus ST road car. It is larger than its predecessor, presenting engineers with the challenge of keeping overall weight increase to a minimum. In addition, the new car's width is 1800mm, the precise maximum specified under World Rally Car regulations. "We liaised closely with Ford TeamRS on the shell," said Loriaux. "We used the ADAMS software model to help with our initial design and that allowed us to experiment with the car's layout and see how changes to one specific component might affect the other parts. We also worked hard on the aerodynamic side, because the new car has a larger frontal area. We tried to compensate for this as much as possible and to reduce drag on faster sections. On the other hand, the more steeply-sloped rear hatch of the new car plays back into our hands, in terms of making the rear wing more efficient." |

To add some more fuel to the fire:
Autocar is reporting that Subaru will volly a strike against Mitsubishi in early April when it debuts the all-new Impreza at the New York Auto Show. The body style will be a five-door hatchback with styling similar to that of the B5 TPH concept that first appeared last year in Tokyo. Power will reportedly come from your choice of a 1.5L or 2.0L flat-four boxer engine. Autocar's shocker is that the popular WRX model that slots between the everyday Imprezas and the high performance STi model will be cancelled, and that we won't see the new STi until 2008. Autocar doesn't cite its source for this information, and it seems highly unlikely to us considering that Mitsubishi is planning to make its Lancer Ralliart more powerful than previous generations in an effort to face the WRX head on. All will be revealed in the Big Apple come April, but for now we sit and wait.

So they're saying according to their source, the WRX will be cancelled? And there will only be a 1.5L RS and a 2.0L RS with the new STi debuting in 2008? I highly doubt that...that'd be a stupid move on Subaru's part in my opinion... |

Both Autoblog and Autocar are relyable sources. We'll have to wait and see huh? Interesting...
Oh and here's the concept that it is to be styled after.

I like the WRX hatch.. looks rally like the Peugot 206.
the new EVO looks like a Mazda 6 and an early 90's dodge neon had sex.

I wouldn't be surprised if that pic is indeed legit. The new design looks more tame and generic. |

I think both concepts are ugly IMHO. I just havent been able to find a new design that i actually like from any car manufacture lately. And if subaru kills the WRX line in America it will be one of the stupidest moves they could make. Especially since you see alot more WRXs on the road compared to STIs. And the fact that mitsu is beefing up their ralliart to compete with the WRX.

Quick update from Autoblog.
Everyone thought the rumor that Subaru would be dropping its popular WRX model when it launches a redesigned Impreza was bunk. The rumor originated with an article by Autocar that stated Subaru had "no plans to carry over the intermediate WRX model." Michael McHale, Subaru's Director of Corporate Communications, got in touch with Autoblog to let us know that the WRX is safe and will be present after the relaunch of the redesigned Impreza. Those worrying that the Impreza will only be offered as a five-door hatchback in the future can rest easy, too. Sedan variants will be offered, presumably along with the five-door hatchback we've seen in spy shots. We still expect to see the new Impreza at the New York Auto Show in early April, though it's unclear whether or not Subaru will follow Mitsubishi's lead and introduce only the standard models before trotting out the hotted up WRX and STi variants. We'll be on hand in the Big Apple to let you know from the show floor.

Does anyone see the similarities between the Evo X and the Acura TL? I hate that line on the Evo, although the newest "concept" looks better than the first:

I got to see the "lancer" at a local auto show and It didnt impress me. So I have a feeling if the EVO is along the same lines I really wont like it either. I seems way too big.

Those pix from Motor Trend are 100% Authentic. i have seen the car in person. yes i am one of only 15 people in the world to actually see the car pre-production and pre-release!! so i can vouch for those pictures.
i dont know the specs on it however.

I think it would look nice if they did something with the grille and front bumper.
STi might look better.....maybe

wow that is ugly, what a disappointment. the grill is horrific an the back end reminds me of the daewoo hatchback they sold for a while, forget what it was called. or maybe a lexus rx330, which also looks like crap.
