Hey guys I am having some problems with my gauges. I got this cheap 4 in 1 gauge from eBay and it ended up being in Celsius. Well it began reading at maybe 80 degrees and went up from there when the engine was still cold. So I figured maybe the sending unit measures in Fahrenheit. So I bought another water temperature gauge. Forgot the brand it was I believe around 70 dollars. And installed it. And it's reading 280 degrees with the engine cold. But it goes up with temperature. Is there some kind of resistor I may need in the line to get it to work more accurately or is my sending unit screwed up?

You should list the brand you bought where you installed it and where you wired it

Stop buying cheap gauges. Why go cheap on something that reads the vitals of you motor? Worst comes to worst just spend the money and pick up an Autometer.

The new gauge I got is glo shift it looks like. The 4 in 1 is xtune. I wired it to the 1 wire what I believe is the water temperature sending unit around under the intake. And if I had the money for more expensive gauges I would get them. But being as I had no gauges at all a gauge reading 5 or 10 degrees off is better than the guessing game.

Oh.. Ok. I guess I have to take this thing to a shop then to get done. I don't have a took to get the old sending unit off

Not meaning to come off too Dickish, but........

If you own a 240, and not a set of basic tools, whelp, you need to buy a Honduh instead.

My tools got stolen before I moved and I'm still slowly working on getting over it. Bills are a little more important than tools. But anyway I got it off only to find out the new sending unit has different threads. :-(

Sorry to hear that. I know how hard times are, and priorities.

As for the sending unit and the threads, you have several options. If possible, tap the main orifice to the sending units' thread pitch. This might not be possible if there isn't enough meat on the female side.
Option 2;
You'll have to get several temperature sensor adaptors. One for the female orifice and then one for the sending unit. The adapters need to have the same thread pitch when they join in the middle.
