weird ticking/rattling sounds comming from the transmission???

i have recently noticed a ticking/rattling sounds comming from around the transmission/block area. i only hear it when i press on the gas when in gear. in neutral or while rolling, it is normal. im thinking its the transmission? im in the middle of a short shifter install, so i took off the boots and such, and drove around, the sound is louder and i think i hear the sound comming from the tranny. i'll see if i can get a sound clip later on in the week.

anyone have a similar problem or know whats going on?

i bet you have a loose heatshield.

another culprit may be the bracket that extends from the tranny mount to the exhaust. mine rusted right down the middle, and the metal ends would touch each other during driving and making a scraping rattling metal noise.

get under the car and check it out.

Yeah. The exhaust ground rust off and hits the exhaust too.

hehe, i had a sound like that the other day. I looked under the car and what do I see? Four missing bolts on the cat. Barly hanging on by the studs. After a rebolt, the sound went away.

thanks guys, all your responses sound very likey as i have installed a catback recently. i could have swore it was comming from around the tranny area tho, but then i guess they are in the same vacinity. anyway, i'll go under the car and check it out. thanks for all your help.
