I just saw a commercial for a toyota camry. And it had SO MANY flashes of "You know you want it" with a camry under it.
Isn't subliminal messaging illegal?

Subliminal messaging I don't believe has ever been proven effective. You gotta work on your willpower man

Jeff is quite right. It's completely illegal... Whether it works or not I don't know, but I'd imagine that if someone was in an impressionable state it would...

I don't mean to debate psychology here, but people are really only in an impressionable state if they think they are. IE: Hypnosis really only works on people who believe in it (and even then there's no proof that exists either). Every commercial, every jingle, it's all geared to stay in your head. If you can recognize and realize that there's a camry there with that slogan, and it sticks in yer head, then hat's off to Toyota's marketing department. Good press or bad press, it stays in your head. And with that, I finish my debating and go on to better things, like buying a Camry!!!

It can't be subliminal if you actually KNOW that you saw it. That's contrary to the whole idea of a subliminal message. Remember about 10 years ago Toyota had the Paseo commercial where the guy would say 'women dig it' really fast? It wasn't subliminal because you were conscious of the message.

Same with the camry :\

yeah, but see... a lot of girls (at least around here) like a cute car, and that's definately what the paseo is.

Paseo is funny-looking. It is so NOT cute. Most women actually want a little cheap car that will have a cupholder and will get them from place to place. Other women want a rear-wheel-drive 5-speed KA24DE (with a T at the end at one point or another). Or maybe a Supra...
