s13 CF hood.

I'm getting a Carbon fiber hood, and will not have it w/o hood pins on the car. Yeah,I'ma pussy, but either way I'm wondering how hard it is to install, and what is involved. I would think that its just simple drilling?

What kinda hood you getting? I know people who have had bad "hood flying up while their driving" experieinces because they didn't have hood pins, of have a nice quality hood that uses the stock latch.

You're right it's basically just drilling holes in the hood and drilling holes under the hood to mount the pins themselves. The hardest part will be getting everything set to the proper heighth to hold the hood securely but not crack it.

Any reccomendations for how to do that?

Mount the lower part of the hood pin,and then lower the hood to it and drill where it meets?

Anybody with s13 hood pins want to post some pics of their lower mount?

Sparco hood pins should be good enough?

Thanks, sorry to ask so many questions

Just take your time with it, depending on what kind you are using, you can just eyeball it until it looks like the pin will slide in flush with the hood fully closed. I used the locking kind on my old car, they were a real pain in the ass to line up.

a tape measurer and magic marker will do you wonders right now. if you're gonna drill holes in it i suggest you get a fiberglass hood, also.

why the need? i had a carbon fiber hood with stock latches on my cougar, hit the 130mph and it was fine, and the S13 has way less wind drag in that area due to the lack of bumper to hood grill.

you could alway rig your hood up to flip up like a vette or viper

put the drill in reverse and go slow. you basically want to "BURN" through to keep the hole from looking all ragged and frayed. yes mount the pins first put tape on the top of them and lower the hood drill through the tape. drill from bottomup with the drill in reverse.

P.S. go with the sparco dont get those flat locking things. they are pure crap.

and make sure you line the hood up correctly on the car before installing the hood pins.

yup thats them. get those or that style. (buddy of mine is actually running some APC copies of those and they are holding fine. and he has no hood latch. at all. just the pins.)

well I would have flamed you about the which hood pins to get but since you did ask a decent question about how to drill the holes and its not really as mindless as it seems I decided to spare you

I suggest going with the initial installation. Mount the hood to the hood latches, line up, balance, and gawk, then raise the hood, install the pins where you want them to be. Now, take some fingernail polish (pink/red) doting the tops of the pins themselves, then laying the hood down on top of the pins, creating a spot of color under neith the hood, drill from there, much more convenient, then trying to measure manually. . . . YOU STUPID FUCK. . . hahaha. J/K main, J/K. . . Enjoy the hood while it looks good, keep it polished, you want the clear coat to reamain. . . . .Well. . . . . Clear!

A Carbon Fiber hood is not rice, provided you are buying it for it's weight saving qualities. If you are buying it "Cuz it looks Tyte, Yo!", then it's rice.

Are you painting it along w/ the entire car? Mine is getting painted after the fact, hope it blends in, pearl white is a pain to color match. A paint code is a paint code but they always slighty differ depending on who mixed it...
