why would u change the front end from 91 to 94?

if you are reffering to the 89-90 to 91-94 than, yes it's been done, and u can't tell the difference.

about the radar detector... i've heard good stuff about valintine 1, but yah, that's slightly pricy... just SLIGHTLY! but to hide from radar? hide in the lane towards the center of the road, furthest away from the side of the road (where cops sit and hide), and hide behind other cars.

things to know about radar? radar picks up bigger things, for example, you gun by a 18 wheeler, while the the cop is radaring, it'll pick up the speed of th 18 wheeler.

another thing about radar? it picks up white cars better than black cars, becase white reflects radar/light better than black.

so yah, those technique has been my anti-radar device... don't take my word though...

well that might work if they have a dated radar system but most of the new cars come w/ new more sofisticated radar guns. for instance the 18 wheeler trick...itll pick up both vehicles speeds and show the cop both of them. that opposite side of the road deal...useless. if theyre facing toward you...again the more sofisticated radar calculates your speed even if your going the opposite way. they also got this niffty little device called lidar. its basically a laser that at its widest is 6 feet wide (the radar beam) so you can pinpoint it at a single car and get teh speed. some radar dectectors catch it...others...your fucked. the black and white thing... the difference in color is not enought to produce any kind of false reading or anything. maybe in a large crowd of cars it wont get you so easily. i got read an issue of c&d that explained all of this but i lost the issue so this is off the top of my head... there could be mistakes and if so ma bad.

Valentine 1 is definitly the best. I bought just a cheap 110$ cobra from bestbuy. Granted you generaly get what you pay for, but mine has saved my ass countless times. There have been many instances of someone trying to race me and just before i go, my radar goes off. i hit the brakes while the other guy hits it and gets pulled over. i got 2 speeding tickets last year and haven't got one since the cobra. I am very much pro radar dectectors. Granted the new laser guns police are using gives you little to no warning, but most of the cops here still have K, Ka band radar. Mine has payed for it's self many, many times.

OK guys I am not going to get all emotional on this topic, because I spent a lot of time doing my homework! Go to radartest.com and see for yourself. I was planning to get a valentine one, but it wasn't the best one out there. That surprised me. I went with the Escort Passport 8500. I can tell you that it works and eliminates false alarms! On a 12 hour round trip to new orleans, it went off once where i didn't know what it was sniffing at. Got me past 5 cops and I slowed down once 5 miles before I come up on him. Get one, $300 at Best Buy. Love it, cheaper then a ticket!!!! But put it away when you are not in the car, smash and grab favortie! If anyone gets a ticket, PM me, I have a book on how to beat any ticket!

Blinder M-10 Twin only laser jammer that WORKS. kinda pricey but its been proven effective, u get what u pay for... my friend just bought one for his 2.5RS after getting too many tickets (he races Formula 500, he's kind of lead footed) and its workin great for him

EDIT: ok i lied again actually this works better than the Blinder -- Lidatek Laser Echo ($350) go check out www.radartest.com like the other guy said, its a good place.

About radar detectors, either go with the Valentine, Bel 980, or Escort 8500. Those are the most effective out right now. BTW those are all around $300+ unless u can find them on ebay or somethin. hope this helps...

EDIT: OR u could be like me and go 5-7 over everywhere (except on highway of course ) but i know thats no fun.

I like the Valentine b/c it tells you what direction the Cops are shooting from.. I think it's a little gaudy looking in person though. I think the Bel is the most incognito of the bunch.

Honestly... how would a radar detector help you?
The only way the detector will beep is if you are getting either a) reflections of the radar beam off another car, or b) getting radar'd.
If it's A, thats fine... slow down. If it's B, you're F'd. End of story. If you have to get shot to know that you've been shot... you're ticketed.
Also... once you have a radar detector, you give up your right to get a warning. I got 5 tickets with a radar detector, and 1 without. And 2 warnings without. You can get ticketed if you are next to a car that got pulled over, becuase logically, you are going as fast as it was. And cops go through a training course to determine how fast things are going without needed a radar. And their testimony is valid as proof in court. That will throw out the "radar jammer" theory.
Just some things to think about.
-Jeff

89-90 Bumper : Image
91-93 Bumper : Image

And yes, there's a difference, the 89-90 Bumper Is verry old school looking . But I guess you can replace it easly.

BTW, theres a Review on RADARS in one of the SUPERSTREET Magazines [ The one that featured the Trueno ]
It should help you decide.

TIP
Stock 91-93 Bumper Replacement : $40-$100

the V1 is by far the best detector out there.
hell ask anyone who ran gumball 3000, ill bet it saved there ass a bunch of times. one guy who used it said "it saved me over 100 times, thats probably an understatement."

the only bad thing about it is the price.but its well worth it IMO.

P.S. radartest is FULL OF SHIT. they were paid by escort to bad mouth the V1 cause if u look in every other magazine comparo, V1 will win hands down.

I have an Escort 8500. It's amazing. Radartest may have been paid, they may not have been - I don't care. Even when it doesn't rank first, it ranks second. The thing is amazing. The V1 is too expensive, and if this matters to anyone, it's also pretty ugly. The Escort is a beautiful piece of electronics (and I don't just mean body casing; I mean it's wonderfully intelligent display) with amazing performance. It once saw a cop using Laser before I did. Okay? That's incredible.

As for the logic of just slowing down, it's a good plan. But it's slightly flawed. None of us drive Cavaliers.

I have heard that the lidar gun can't be used during rain or through windows or anything like that. it must be outside the car in somewhat clear weather. don't know if it's true or not but it's an interesting fact I think if it's true

Ok...the lowdown.
Lidar cannot be used when in the vehicle. It cannot pass through a reflective surface (aka window) before hitting the speeding vehicle. It must be placed on a tripod or be on the outside of the vehicle, held steadily. Also, they have to test the system on 2-3 passing vehicles before it has been calibrated in that position.
Radar cannot be used in the rain, and must be used when the window of the vehicle is down or mounted on the exterior of the vehicle.

Jeff, the reason a Radar detector can "see" radar, even though it is way ahead of you, is because radar produces waves, hence the mhz rating on the various bands. Not all of the waves hit the vehicle that it was aimed for. And the waves do not stop after they have gone past the oncoming vehicle either. The waves that pass by are the waves that the RD "sees", thus the signal strenght that most RD's show, by way of led's or flashing numbers.

Wow I did it...Physics is so cool!

onebadm5, if a cop is just driving down the road and sees that in a rearview mirror, hell probably pull you over. My dad was pulled over because he had a garage door opener on the sun visor.(it had a little red light) You have to be careful to make sure that it is not in plain view.

i dont have one of those, a friend builds em and sells em. its just a remote display (LED thats embedded into your rear view mirror). the advantage of this is that if the unit or car is off, and the cop shines his light or looks at it, he wont see anything.
