and why would his bearings go bad... I would think an 18 inch tall rim would give just as much stress as a 12 inch wide...

it's the -42 offset that is bad...that's gonna put alot of awkward force on the hub/lugs in a twisting kinda motion upwards...that will cause the bearing to have more pressure on one side, making it wear faster and shit...

yeah.. it basically increase the length of the 'lever' that exerts force on the bearings.
