Lifewater's Sileighty Build Thread
Hello,
I'm originally from a local New York/NJ forum and this is the thread I posted there. I cleaned it up a bit but basically this just the condensed version of my 3 year continuing thread on my local forum documenting my progress. I hope you enjoy. I know Sileighty's arent the favorite here but I hope you can enjoy the work that went into making this car: Edited: (Added Full list for my build) Motor CP Pistons (9.0:1) Eagle Rods (w/ ARP Rod Bolts) Clevite Bearings Clevite Main Bearings Nissan OEM Thrust Washer ARP Main Studs ARP Head Studs Cosworth Metal HG 87mm 1.1mm (thick) Supertech Dual Valve Spring/Retainer Pkg. Here's what it looked like when I bought it back in like 2007. Came with a SOHC KA in bad shape... Clutch was shot, but rust was minimal (Lil specs on the frame rail, shock tower, and rocker arm). So I decided to wait for my SR Swap before driving it. Fast forward to my Wings Swap and Silvia Front Car drove like a completely animal. I had no idea turbos cars were so fast. I met Dane shortly after and he brought me back down to reality, showing me I was actually running 19lbs on my stock t25 turbo, making my car feel like a Ferrari. In the end the turbo ended up blowing at Drift Nirvana. Here's some pics of the progress made during Mid 2008: Center Console Mod (Courtesy of Duplicolor!) Got rid of the god ugly stock tails and replaced them with legit kouki tails! Since the turbo was fried I upgraded to a 2871r, Power FC, and 740CC Nismo Injectors. BUT Due to a busted o-ring I ended up bending rod #4 and ruining my motor. So what else is one to do? Rebuild of course :P I hope to have the motor completely rebuilt by sometime toward the end of the summer. The motor should be good enough to handle around 500hp, but I will be keeping it around 350hp (turbo limitations). Waiting for paint and a motor: Most of the motor is assembled at this point. All that's left is the lifters, cams and the rest of the timing chain setup.. Then all the peripherals can start going back on the motor. We did run into an issue with the oil baffle pan. Apparently ARP main studs stick out of the girdle too far and you cant seal the pan properly cause they hit the pan. Having the choice of shaving the pan or the arp stud, the oil pan was chosen as the victim. Here it is clearly not sealing correctly (this is with the pan bolted down) Fabbing oil sump to allow mating with ARP main studs: Recap of whats being done: Full repaint, engine bay included, installation of Type-X wing/rear valances, silvia sideskirts, silvia front lip, GTR grill. Oh and I finally got brick headlights Ground 0! Soon to be painted. Engine bay work Last edited by lifewater; 02-26-2010 at 07:18 AM.. Reason: Added my full build list for those asking |

I needed some motivation, so I dressed her up all nice. All thats missing is the JDM rainguards:
And heres how she sits as of today: Whats next: Powdercoat crossmember: (Black Chrome) - Done Powdercoat Z32 Brakes: (Red, hopefully matching rim lip) - Done Powdercoat Valve Cover: (Wrinkle Red) - Done Motor Install Wiring (fusebox relocation to passenger side + full tuck) PS: Yes I will lower the car when its done! UPDATE: 5/3/2012 I know its been forever since I updated, but a lot of shits happened and the car finally fucking runs. Alternator was rebuilt and then almost went on fire, a bolt snapped off on my z32 calipers. Wiring is a pain in the ass. But whatever the thing fucking moves now. Thanks to Dane (MTX450), Alex and Pat for all the support for the last 3 years. And thanks to my job for slowly paying for the build. Finally bought a Xenon rear bumper, which is going to be painted this week and hopefully installed. Interior still needs work. Last weekend and this week was basically spent driving around with Dane street tuning the Haltech. Sometime in the next few months I will bring it to the dyno and post the results of our hard work. The car has coilovers, its currently running Stance GR+ Pro setup. Its so high so I can actually jack the car up and so the body shop didnt have a hard time getting it up on any ramps. As for the valvetrain... supertech 110lbs dual spring. |

My one issue with them was installation is dangerous and frustrating. I almost lost and eye when the collets didnt sit properly. I think i spent an hour just looking for lost collets too.

That color is spectacular! I was pretty relieved after seeing the rest of the paint pics, realizing that you didn't keep it flat black
Love everything overall too, I'd do almost exactly the same if I were to build an S13. Can't wait to see pics of it lowered and with the motor finished. Makes me want to visit my dad so I could see it in person... New York, son! Ball hard and build em' RIGHT! East coast > West coast

why did you pull the fenders first without test fitting the wheels/tires? 17x9.5+12 you can fit with just a roll/tiny pull.
wouldve looked 100000x better without that huge pull. |

I just like the way it looks really, no other reason... Mind you I have stock suspension arms so its cambered a bit. Once I get adjustable arms that is gonna sit outward more. Can always rock spacers if its a few millimeters off.
