Ok... I normally do my stuff alone but I've got a few questions before I spent money on 'maybe' userless parts...
I just got myself a brand new ats&across carbonetics clutch for my SR, I'm gonna change my clutch bearing while I'm at it... But I was wondering what would a new nismo clutch pivot do? I just don't understand whats the difference between an oe and the nismo one... I'm also looking to change my engine/tranny mounts.. Someone could tell me whats the best choice between Megan/Nismo/Cusco mounts? I track my car... daily drive it too but I don't 'really' have a problem with the car being a little less 'confortable'... And in 2seconds : Good Tranny oil + Good Diff oil (i have no god damn idea what my diff is.. Came with the car (JDM).. Locks easily, no wheel jump) Thanks! |

Basically Nismo are harder than stock rubber mounts and for a lot of people work just fine. The Cusco mounts which have been copied by a lot of other companies are bone jarringly stiff, they also make your whole car vibrate. Project Nissan sells copies of them and they are just as severe. I have looked at the Megan racing mounts and they look like R33 engine mounts copied. I have no idea how stiff they are. Basically any mount thats solid will make your car rattle. I used to sell Polyurethane mounts we had manufactured that were stiffer than Nismo but did not make the car rattle. The market has changed though and I no longer market them. As far as diff and trans oils go thats a ongoing debate. Some people will swear by Redline MTL but every tranny I have seen that put in sounds like its going to explode i.e. grinds like and crunchs and the minute its changed out it goes away. Some people use the Mobil 1 stuff, others do a old school SCCA racer and trans shop trick of running 30wt engine oil. I have done this and it shifts real smooth., though its a detergent oil so you have to change it out every year or so. Others run regular old gear oil. As far as your diff goes again it depends on if its a LSD and what type it is. If its a VLSD its a sealed unit and gear oil is fine. If its a clutch pack you need either LSD additive or LSD specific gear oil. If its helical aka HLSD? Well I don't have all the info on that because I have never actually run a Helical.

Thanks! Helps a lot... i think i've got an S15 diff... But ain't sure.. I'll open it pretty soon to check out...
If I plan on drifting (and clutchkicking) quite often... Do you think the Nismo mounts will hold the abuse? I'm on a budget (even I put a fair amount on the clutch) and I don't wanna end up replacing my mounts twice a year =) |

you should be fine to beat on nismo mounts for a year or so.. I had them on a car for like 2 years and about 30k miles. Beat em everytime i went anywhere. The guy who has that car now (6 years from install approx) still beats on the same mounts. They are still holdin.. Car never saw SERIOUS track time.. But they took a good beating on the street.

I hear great thing about the JGS (Rubber) motor mounts. Stiffer than Nismo's but not stiff enough to shake. The quality of their products are great in the KA-T world, I've never used them though but that's the route I'm going. Here is the link.

NISMO mounts if you want some good street manners...otherwise, I love the avid mounts. More vibrations than the nismo mounts but slightly less than the likes of cusco
