transmission problem need some help
i dont know if this is the right place to post this but here it goes my problem began yesterday, i drove 300 miles yesterday (round trip) everything seemed fine just another long weekend drive but once i got off the highway i started noticing my transmission/clutch was making a very weird noise and it only does it if the car is idling on gear if i shift to neutral the noise stops im really at a loss here on what it can be, the noise is more like a scratching kind of sound and is not conistant it makes the sound for 2 seconds stops comes back for 3 seconds goes away for 2 seconds and so forth and i can feel like a vibration on the shifter while its making this sound
the car is a 96 s14 5 speed |

check transmission fluid. if it`s dark, replace fluid. might cure the noise, might not. but it`s the easiest thing to do. if there`s a lot of metal on the magnetic drain or on the old oil when you drain it, transmission might be bad. also check the little plastic bushing on the end of the shifter. a worn out shifter bushing can make rattling noise at idle. good luck, i hope it`s something cheap and simple.
