A few weeks ago I installed a splash hub and new wheel in my s14. And sitting in traffic the other day I noticed where the hub is bolted to the steering column there is a little vertical line. I was wondering if when that line is straight up that means the wheels are straight, mainly because if so my steering wheel is just a hair cockeyed and that will bug me a slight bit.

That line may be some sort of reference mark, but in my experience, the wheel or hub adapter have nothing to do with the wheels and steering rack being completely centered.

Centering the rack involves measuring the length of the exposed piston on each side. I believe the measurement is supposed to be 68.5mm of piston protruding from each side of the rack.

The relationship between your inner tie rods and tie rods ends, which set your toe in the front end, also greatly impact whether your steering wheel is straight or not.

If it isn't perfectly straight, you can adjust it by removing the 19mm nut that secures the hub to the column. Then with the wheels pointed straight ahead, pull the hub off and put it back on straight. If it still isn't perfectly straight and it seems that the correct position is in-between the splines of the steering column, then you'll need to fine tune it with the tie rods.
