Are we gonna be the only group there? Any idea how much track time they will allow? what group will be running the event? I sure don't wanna be on a track with out an organizing body that has done this a few times. Otherwise it'd be a cluster****

It's just the 240 convention drive (if I go) that will be a bitch, someone said 11 hours to ATL, but if it takes 23 hours to go to indy from fl, i don't see how chicago to atl is only 11 hours. EDIT: Nevermind half of what I said before, I looked at the location to quick and though Indiana.

well the dates for the other 240 convention are not april, but august 1-3, so if anything I probably would just go to this one only due to shorter distances, or just make a really big road trip out of it and end up in florida and come back after the convention. Haven't been on a road trip yet without my parents.

to keep costs down.............most tracks will let you camp at the track, i dunno bout these guys though. that's what i would plan on doing. that or else i'd just get up early, drive the 3-4hrs, and then go home that night.

well........it seems as though we have somewhat significant interest in the event. next step is to contact the track. personally, i think we should do a joint day with one of the mustang clubs or anybody else that already has a date set.
1) this would make it cheaper for us 2) the other club would already have a pre-arranged agenda for the day 3) safety and rescue would already be arranged 4) the track would already be staffed with corner workers 5) instructors may be present i don't know if on the calendar where it says "open track day" that it means it is not yet reserved for anybody.........or that the track is keeping that day open for just anybody to show up. we might want to figure that out. |

Yeah, I'd like to add that I won't get on track with anybody that doesn't have 1+ yr experiance and/or an instructor. That said, I need one badly
We'll need 20+ instructors tho...that'll be hard to pull off. I would think our only option would be what tnord said and just make sure we get with a group with plenty of instructors. I was just looking at the pics of the track......I think the banks at lowes are higher than the biggest hill at this track, lol. Gota love the midwest.

hey guys,
having some experieince putting together track days, you may want to consider piggybacking on someone elses event. It can get very exspensive to do a weekend, weekdays tend to be less expensive. Figure in costs of track rental, corner workers, insurance it can get real $$ real quick. You might consider calling the track and seeing what their schedule is over the summer. Look for weekends that are being rented by open marque clubs, NASA, Tracktime, Carguys, Driving Impressions etc... (I don't know if all of those even go to this track) and see if we can put together a group discount type thing, or if we have enough people buy a run group for our 240 brethren. This way you will not have to deal with finding instructors, insurance is already paid etc. Most schools/clubs I would think be interested if they are not filled up, and alot of events go unfilled these days. what do you think? ps: DSC, thanks for linking to the MidOhio event!

Well I'm sure you guys have all heard that this year's convention will be held August 1-3. I guess that was just confirmed not too long ago. We don't know what would be a good date not to inconvenience anyone. Either late June or later in the year... Anyone with anything in mind?

I am there for sure, keep the updates coming.
Suggestion, sponsors make things cheap in exchange for advertizing. I feel like a commercial today but, Afterdark-tuning is in IA. Also Project-D aka Autoimaging.com is in MN (where I am from.) If you contact them and bring in some other groups on this, they may be willing to fork out a little help. Both of those places specialize in 240sx tuning and thus would be appropriate. I could maybe help in this, honestly I don't know anyone at either of those places personally. I could make the calls if someone wants to get at me.

You should also ask the people who made the convention in Cali, they can give some tips, I know that the RX7 people are making a meet in indiana sometime in april I think, but I think it will be an rx7 exclusive thing.
As for dates I am free for most of the summer except August is a big question mark. My cousins will be coming in August, just not sure when, they are last minute type of people. I know a lot of you are in college, so when do most colleges end, try and work around school.

I know you guys planned the date already, but because it is sooo incredibly close to the convention in Atlanta I would strongly suggest you reconsider the date (mid-August for track events is HORRIBLE on tires and cooling). Just so you guys have a heads up; when planning a big event like this it is a BAD idea to get "ideas" from others. The more you "talk" about it, the less gets done. You really need to set a concrete date/location/cost schedule up, and have a cutoff date for people to register/pay by. If MidAmerica is like any other track, they would require a 1/2 deposit by roughly 6 months before the event, and full payment prior to the event itself. Factoring in EMT/tow/cornerworkers/etc and you need at least 40-50 people paying full price to even break even. It's one big headache trying to fill up the event by yourselves; I piggybacked 2002's convention with SpeedTrial (bought 75 spaces out of 100 available) and that was a huge PITA with all the cancellations and no-shows and such. I heard almost every excuse in the book trying to get themselves out of the track event (and getting me to refund their money). Not fun at all. My suggestion: talk to Atlanta guys, coordinate dates and/or possible sponsors (help each other out), have a 3-5 person committee decide date and all relevant details OFF the forums, and then post everything up. -alex |
