Dash cam recommendations?
Looking for any feedback you have. Had someone pull into my parking lot and hit my dd and take off. Then just had a guy blindside my girlfriend and I when we were in her car. We're ok and thankfully have insurance coverage for this but having a dash cam with the right features would make this stack of paperwork a lot easier to bear.
Features I am wanting are: Parking mode/g sensor: Automatically turns on if your car is hit while parked. Trick is you must have it hard wired. Hard wire and battery capability: Would like the option to be able to do both if possible. Auto start and stop: Basically the thing will turn on and off when it receives power without me always having to turn it on and off. Continuous looping: It will auto delete the oldest files Discreteness: Something small enough to tuck up in front or just below the rear view mirror without cluttering up visibility. Picture quality: Looking for 720 or 1080 HD. Night quality should be good but doesn't need to be perfect. I do not need built in GPS, although that would be cool. Unnecessary for me though. I'm more worried about my car not me getting lost. I don't need a rear cam either. I don't feel that I need a screen on the cam itself either. Money really isn't too big of an object here. I've used the comparison tool online and have watched dozens of videos from each product. Just looking to hear if any of you have experience here. Cheers!

I just won this at a local Z car show raffle
i took it out and charged it, havent stuck it in the car yet, but continuous recording, automatically comes on when it senses vibration. But i dont see why i couldnt use it like a gopro. Only thing is read that battery life isnt that long, hardwire would be nice.

automatically comes on when it senses vibration as in parking mode, or will it stay on? Interesting alternative to hardwiring..

Using my GoPro Hero 3+ for a dash cam. Didn't purchase it solely for that purpose but when I don't have it attached to the outside of the car or on a monopod, its hanging from a suction cup attached to the inside of the windshield. My only complaint really is night time quality sucks.
So far I've had two close calls... I'd say it's doing its job thus far.

^^^was that a cop in the second vid, or just a random brake check? Was close! Never thought about a GoPro, don't do much night driving so that's fine, but no hard wire option, correct?

Random brake check.
You can have it hardwired with the GoPro but there is no option that'll turn the camera on when you have the key turn to IGN ON. You'd have to turn the camera on, then press the record button. But if you're lazy to press a couple of buttons right in front of you, GoPro offers a wifi remote. I chose the GoPro because it has multiple uses, where as a dedicated dash cam is just that.

The best recorders come from Korea. Chinese models are usually knock offs or clones. I would look for a capacitor model over a battery. The battery's are usually junk and don't hold a charge after a while. Just like a radar detector, hard-wiring is mandatory IMHO
I like the Black Box G1W-C. The C stands for the capacitor model. There are A LOT of knockoffs and clones of it. Quality varies greatly so, do your research on what you are buying. If you think car part knockoffs are bad, you haven't bought any electronics online recently. I noticed you mentioned wanting shock recording. The front windshield is like a big drum. There will be a lot of false positives. Make sure the model you get simply records and doesn't flag every shock instance. You'll hate life having to manually delete every bump in the road. Quote:
