Silvia headlights went out after wiring fog lights. need help
I'm not to knowledgeable in the electrical dept.. So if anyone can help me figure out what the issue is.. I would really really appreciate it. So what happened was, after I installed the fog lights loosely following one of the DIY write ups from one of these forums, I took my car out for a spin. for a moment the fog lights were fine. When I got to a turn on the road I noticed that the headlights AND foglights went out. The parking lights and signal lights were still on. So I drove into a parking lot and popped the hood to find that one of the ground wires for the driver's side fog light bulb had somehow come off. I checked the headlamp fuses and they were fine.. so I think it has to do with a relay?
Another thing I realized is that I can't start the engine when the dimmer switch is on but when off I can start it. Anyone have an idea? |

What did you use to wire up the fog lamps with? If your car has powers windows and locks that means your car is wired for fog lamps from the factory, all you need is a fog lamp switch and a relay to go under the hood in the relay box under your intake air box, the you'll need some wire to run from the fog lamp connector under the hood on the frame of your car next to the battery to the fogs, I'm making a kit for people to buy, already have the fog button made that replaces the pop up switch and the relay for under the hood, anyways, I'll try to help you with what I can, I got a video on YouTube just check out "s13 240sx Silvia conversion fog light switch" anyways I need more info on how you wired up your fogs, so I can see where you went wrong.

Thanks for your reply. I figured out the issue. It so happened that I didn't have the lights grounded. The way I wired my fogs were directly to the headlight flip-up switch using female spade connectors.
Anyhow, I believe I left you a comment on that video wanting to purchase your switch kit. A coincidence that you replied to my post here lol. But anyway, I am pretty interested in getting one. Any details on how I can go about that? Thanks a bunch .. I'm not gonna spend money on an expensive JDM switch. Oh yeah, my car is the SE model with power windows and locks. I actually located the factory harness for the fog lights. The other thing I wanted to ask is if you used a harness to connect onto the fog light bulbs or if you used female spades like I did. Thanks again. |

No prob, well fog the wiring on my fogs they had the connectors on the fog bulbs with 3 inches of wire, so I had an old fog harness from my old bronco that I used to connect it to the factory wiring of the car, I'm still trying to locate a factory wire harness for the fogs to directly plug in the fogs, I'm figuring I will just get Nissan connector plugs and wire them and sell the switches, relay and wire harness as a plug and play kit, only thing is 89-90 have a small black connector and 91-94 have bigger gray connector, also want to find some connector plugs for the fog lamp bulbs so no wiring is involved for the purchaser, just a plug and play kit.

Ok give me about a week guys, I'll have an answer, I gotta source some plugs to pin because the wire harness has to be made by scratch because I don't want cut wires with soldering, I want to repin the plugs for a nice clean harness, I do have the switches made and have the relays to go with them.

Ok guys, I found the perfect plugs for the 91-94 foglamp wiring harness, I'm in the process of depinning them and running the appropriate length of wire, I just have to find plugs for the other end of the wire to connect into the fog lamp bulbs, I'll keep ya posted on my progress.
