Quick question guys,

Regreting the situation I've put myself in as this is my first car. I've just got a g35 coupe 6mt aero addition 3 months ago and I'm kinda regreting it. I love my car but I hate how expensive everything is with it. At this point I much rather a silvia s14 but im still making payments on my car. I believe I have 7 grand left on it. Is ther3 anyway I can transfer that loan or trade my car or something so I can get this 240. I love my car but I regret getting something I can't work on until its payed off in about a year. Any information would be nice. Thanks

Sell your car, pay off loan. Use remainder for new car
Transfer loan to another person.

uh, kid... keep your G35. youre 19, you dont have a career, you dont have a huge salary and you dont know what you want to do in life.

buying a 240 NOW is basically like taking all of your money and just burning it! theyre beat on, abused, uncared for, rolling shitboxes (and the rolling shitbox is a term of endearment ive used for 10+ years now). unless youre making upwards of 50-75k a year and can afford to live by yourself, pay all your bills and to fully restore the car + buy go fast bits AND keep a NORMAL daily driver that you dont have to worry about breaking down on you (unless you are prepared to fix ALL your own problems on your 240sx in your garage)... then by all means, buy one as a project car, NOT your primary mode of transportation. that G35 has A LOT more going for it than an almost 20 year old (AT NEWEST) S-Chassis.

oh, going back to working on your own car... DO NOT BUY SOMEONE ELSES PROJECT UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOURE DOING!!! if you dont know how to work on cars, diagnose and troubleshoot and replace your own parts, youll be in for a lot of heartache!

if youre going to college and just starting your life... i suggest you stay far, far, far away from S13s and S14s... otherwise youll find yourself in more debt than youre in now!

Thanks guys, I'll take what you've said into consideration. Yes, I understand that money will be blown away, but it's with the G35 still isn't it? I mean here's what could happen if I got the 240; I would be able to subtract the payments on a car, plus insurance, be able to ACTUALLY buy stuff for my car, learn about working on cars and even maybe have money left over. I have many many friends who know how to work on cars and could help me out. I even have another friend who owns a s13 hatch himself who gets help all the time from another friends.

On the other side, if I kept my G35, In a little over a year I would have a car that's probably not worth as much as it is now, not be able to buy parts for my car because of the tight budget, if something happens to the car (like the transmission going out) I'm fucked, lose any knowledge I could have learned from working on a car since I'll barely have money.

Pretty much it's summed like this: I chose too much for myself to handle as my first car and I regret it, I should have listened to my father. I can either choose an older car that will be more comfortable for me but MIGHT break down(Of course I'd try and make it as RELIABLE as possible before anything else) ORRRRRR I can stick with my G and have money tight while losing knowledge, the ability to work on cars, and being able to treat myself more.

I don't know...TBH I'll probably put my car up on craigslist for the amount I got it for and if I can get that I'll sell it so I can buy a 240 asap. Not going to rush it though...If anymore advice, I'd really appreciate it.

Before you wonder why your G is not selling, do not expect to get anything near what you paid for it, assuming you got it from the dealer. If you got it from a private party, you might get closer to what you paid, but probably not.

I would have to disagree with some of the guys on here. 240's are just like any car. IF they have been maintained properly by the previous owner, they ARE very reliable and can get high 20's in the MPG department. The problem is that it sounds like you will want to modify/"fix up" your car, which will probably compromise the reliability/drive-ability of it, unless you do things properly, which is expensive. Just take a look at all the "clean" shit boxes on this forum. To play the car game with limited funds, you have to be very smart and careful with the mods you do, and thoroughly consider both the long and short term effects of your mods. If you do it correctly, you can have a nice fun car without the loan.

Lol. I bought my S14 when I was 16. Here I am several years later, with a GS300 daily as well, and I'm going to school and working full time. Some student loans, but less than most people anyway. Anything is possible if you set your mind to it, and work your fucking ass off.

But hey, sometimes it's better to take the boring and safe route.

Also, I'm one of those people that doesn't give a shit if others are driving nicer newer cars, I daily drove my S14 with broken aero and shit for like 3 years.

Appreciate the response. Yes, I understand I'll not get what I payed for. Nice to see someone giving me some hope but still the truth, rather then just hard a set an stone answer. I'm more of a slow and pretty kinda guy over the fast sliding my ass around getting in trouble. Again, thanks man.

Haha, I feel you man. I'm going to an expensive ass university and paying all my loans as I go. I understand fully what you mean by busting your ass. Hope all is well for you in your future man, us students need it.

actually you really dont. youre honestly at a point in your life where you dont know what "busting your ass" means (not to be rude, but its the truth) when you hit your 30s, youll understand then. when you have kids and you kill yourself working to support them, thats busting your ass. when you work 80+ hours a week in the field that youve always wanted to, thats busting your ass. when you start your own business and give up damn near everything in your life to achieve your dream, thats busting your ass. graduating from high school and going to college will seem like the easiest time of your LIFE when those are all said and done (and those years of your life WILL be the easiest times when you find your dream, work toward it and look back 10 years later) youre JUST starting your life out. you have the normal "19 year old ego". keep your G, pay it off, go to college, get a career, then think about buying a restoration project. your G is an awesome car, its too bad you cant see it because you want a 20 year old beater project that you cant afford! 240s now require SOOOOOO much time and effort to make nice, you really have no idea. ive been building mine (currently my 5th s13) for almost 4 years. just to get it to the point where it is now (which is what i call "OEM CLEAN") has required more than about $15k, and thats not having a shop do the work for me either! sourcing interior pieces, engine parts, exterior parts and all the things that are broken/old/failed/bent/destoryed is NOT for the faint of heart and NOT for a person whos 19! if you want to roll around in a car that youre not even sure will start in the morning, then be my guest. but if you want to take a route that will PROBABLY wind up being the RIGHT one in your life, stick with the car you have now!

until you can support yourself, your life, your bills, your woman, your habbits, your interests (outside of cars), your rent, your groceries and your entire way of life, dont waste time on a CAR as it is NOT worth it!!! i love my 240 to death, but because of my S13s thru the years, i paid DEARLY for the mistakes id made! pay off your G. hell id love to have one, but i dont... why? because ive spent the last 12 years building 240s, i know how to fix them so it works for me as a daily driver... i have a very close friend who owns a performance shop who helps me when i cant figure things out,which most folks dont have this and most folks dont have mechanical knowledge! also, ive devoted the last 8 years of my life to my CAREER! i lived like a bum for many of those years (in that time ive lost a house to a short sale, a fiance, my 4th 240, i paid off $24,000 in credit card debt, lived my folks again, and worked tons of shitty jobs that i HATED), and unlike most people who give up, my career is now paying off because i stuck thru it (and NO, i dont make shirts and aero parts for a living, thats my hobby), fixed all my failures that i created for myself. more than likely, i will probably sell my 240 in a few years and buy my first NEW car EVER (and IDX or 4cyl turbo mustang) because I CAN AFFORD IT!!! there will be no draw back to what i do to buy the car because i figured my life out, built my career and fixed my mistakes/failures (some of which were because of a damn CAR)... i wont need to sacrifice anything to get it and i wont have to worry about paying my bills to have it because i have the STABILITY to do so... youre 19 man, stop questioning this situation and just keep your car, go to school and become STABLE in life!!!

PS: dont take anything in the above as me being a prick or a jerk with you. im just giving you advice from someone who did EXACTLY what youre contemplating doing now when i was 19. you wont make the same mistakes as me i realize this, BUT, 240s NOW are NOT what they use to be! getting into them now requires financial stability and just because you may wind up building some badass car (in RARE cases) will NOT put you ahead in life on a professional or economic level!

Just wanna let you know, you're a good person for writing this. Going to stick with my G and try some business ventures out while staying in school. If I can make a little more money on the side, I'll get a cheap s13 hatch for a grand or two and play with it to maybe be a weekend car/hobby. I wanna give up the 240 100% but there's just something that makes me wanna play with a car and I can't do that comfortably on my G because of the cost of everything. I'll respect the time you put into your post and not put all my eggs in the same basket. Hope life continues to get better for you like you mentioned

The cost of maintaining and "playing with" a 240 is going to cost the same if not more than modifying a g35.

Like I mentioned above, I prefer looks over performance. With that being said, I guess it'll be safer on my part then to "play" with the 240 over my daily driver. Thanks.

Did you keep reading? Eventually someone gave him BAD advice that happened to align with what he was thinking or what he wanted to hear. With that in mind, the chance that a bad decision will be made was upped.

Gowdi - You are probably too young to remember 2008 and the effects it had on the majority of people, but let me tell you that was a scary time. For me, I was spending stupid money on my s13, and I had a $65k+ salary job at the time. I had a decent savings going and a nice house, a job that seemed to be beyond the most secure company/industry available. Then one day, a Tuesday, I got an email from my company's owner letting us all know that we had just folded as a company.
Yes, the market had crashed and I was out of a career...
I still look back and shake my head at all of the frivolous spending I had done up until that day. It took almost two years before I was able to find a job in my degree field again, and it wasn't until late 2013 before I was able to pull my car out of storage and afford to work on it again.
I know you do not want to be preached to about what you should or shouldn't do, but I highly suggest to keep the G. I say focus on graduating, pay off the G, and make sure you have a decent savings account (min enough to pay 6 months worth of your bills, my comfortable min is $8k). The market will crash again, this I promise you, and when it happens a house will be worth half its value, that G will only fetch $3k-$4k on a good day, and a 240 will only get you $150 for scrap weight.

I hope you the best with school and your future endeavors Gowdi, just make sure you build your future needs, not your today wants...
