Magnetic Drain Plug - worth it?

Do these things actually make a difference?

I was thinking about picking up this SARD Drain Plug MAG - Nissan & Mazda M12 x 1.25

Is it worth it, or just a gimmick?

Sometimes in my old bronco II I found metal shavings when I changed the oil. I'm assuming they would have stuck to it, unless they were aluminum. PBM has one for $10. I haven't ever used one, and don't know if they work but I like the idea.

Yes they do work and I highly suggest one on both your engine and tranny.

The tranny makes the most difference.

Theres plenty of mixed opinions about the magnetic drain plugs. $10 you can spare, you might as well get one.

the cost of the plug and possible benefits point to buying one. if its ten bucks i would do one in motor, trans, and diff just in case. its 30 bucks but what can you really get for that these days?

that metal shavings that circulates in your oil while operating your car pretty much adds more for wear and tear.

its only $10. why not buy it?

It doesn't hurt, but it's much like a leak down or a compression test...once you get results, you know there is a MUCH larger issue at hand

Naw it;s pretty common for these aluminum shit bucket container motors to just grind themselves to death- Ive thrown enough rocker arms into 1000 pieces in my current motor to call it a blender.

I just like hitting the anti-lag at 8200 rpms on hydros what can I say.

Step 1 remove oil pans, and valve cover
step 2 replace rocker arm chunks
step 3 polish cams
step 4 re-assemble and repeat

Tranny location depends, Diff is on the drain plug.

However the difference on magnet strength is quite a bit between stock and these "earth" magnets.

Just dont get a password JDM, the magnet litterally fell out when I removed the drain plugs from the packaging.

I had to JBweld them in. I came to find they didnt even use glue, rather loctite green?

Why would I say it if I needed confirmation? After stripping over 60 240s for salvage I think I'd know. The drain plug on both the transmission and differential are magnetic from Nissan. I've never seen one that wasn't. I even have a dozen of them saved somewhere for when someone strips their plug and needs a new one.

^^ 2 months.

I got a question though. After stripping 60 of them, did you find a lot with metal shavings in the tranny and diff? Does it warrant searching for a possibly stronger magnet in an aftermarket version?

I put a magnetic oil plug (the PBM one, cmon, it's $10 dollars) on for the first time about 1.5 months ago. Haven't changed my oil yet. I'll be sure to take pics and update this thread when I remove mine for the first time.

Would make more send to put it on the drain side. The oil would pass over that plug more frequently.
