240sx exhaust opinions...
Looking for something that will help low-end or mid-range torque. I want something that will be pretty quiet during normal driving, but when I step on it I want it to be loud...
From what I read, Apexi and HKS systems will do this.. true? I like to listen to music.. a lot... so I want to hear it lol. But when I step on it or rev high I want to hear it.. Engine will be a lightly - moderately modified KA24DE... intake, exhaust, cam swap, and eventually top mount turbo |

you can check out the megan drift spec 2.5 catback. I have it and good ground clearance and not too loud without silencer. you can always put the silencer in and sounds just like stock.

That sounds pretty good actually. I saw a video on youtube of some Tanabe exhaust.... in my opinion it honesty sounded like a wet fart. Maybe it was a bad install or something but it literally rattled against the silencer, and sounded bad..
I might just be sold on the Megan Racing.. but would the 3 inch pipe have the same effect? I want to KA-T later on, so it might make more sense for me |

i dont know if the 3in catback would make a difference in sound or ground clearance. 2.5in has a 4in tip and the 3in has a 4.5in tip.

I have an HKS sport exhaust (3" piping) on a stock KA24E. It is pretty quiet until you get to 4K. I can definitely feel a loss in low end torque. I'd probably look into 2.5" piping.

general tips:
2.5" will be quieter than 3" 3" will probably sound deeper but it depends on the muffler/resonator setup Resonators help reduce the droning sound that you hear at peak volume on the freeway Glasspacks are pretty much worthless since the packing melts out quickly, but they often act as a resonator. I started with a 3" Greddy downpipe, test pipe (no cat) to a 3" Invidia full system. It was deep and loud. I wanted something quieter, so I had a complete stainless mandrel bend system using Magnaflow spun metallic cat, Magnaflow 3" straight through race muffler and 3" in to dual 3" out muffler and it quieted it down a lot (well over a thousand dollars once done). The wastegate open dump pipe ended up defeating the purpose though... |

Keep in mind that an NA I4 sound terrible with a 3" exhaust, but once you throw that "rotary muffler" (turbo) on there, it will sound a ton better. If you're on the stock KA, a 3" DP with a test pipe and the stock cat-back sounds pretty rad.

I like all these suggestions.
Pretty sure I'm gonna go 3 inch, just because I will most likely go KA-T in the future. My whole exhaust system needs to be replaced... So I'm also gonna need headers and test pipe or possibly cat.. Any ideas on headers? By the way, I am deleting my EGR system, so I will weld that shut. I'm also thinking no cat, just because I'll end up turbo-ing it anyway. I already have a 3 inch diameter test pipe too |
