shitbox or poop coupe ?
Hey guys i've just recently turned 16 and would like to get a 240sx but my parents do not want me to since they think if I crash it it I will die.Because of this my mom wants me to get some econobox ,and my dad some freakin beater chevy. As you can tell im more of a car ethusiast so neither of those cars appeal to me is there any way I can convince them to let me get a 240sx ,besides the fact it gets good gas mileage ...stock . P.S I am paying for this car with my money.
THANKS GUYS . |

Well, from my point of view, I have NO idea who your parents are, what they like or ANYTHING for that matter, so their would be know way I could convince them, why not just get a another model of nissan, or a honda, their both well built and very economical. But theres really no reason I could give your parents to make them believe a 240 will be the right car for you, since I said, I dunno them.

trust me get a beater right now, and when you get the 240 once you save up the money to get it yourself, you will cherish it more
i had a 1991 toyota corolla, that ran really good, but i hated it because women hated it.. lol so now that i have a 240, i treat it like a little baby i know thats not what you want to hear, but if i had a 240 at age 16 i would have killed myself, because i drove way to reckless back then

if you want a "safe" and "fast" car....then do exactly as i did. Get a saab turbo. It's a big box of steel and glass. Extremely good crash test ratings etc. Up the boost till it overcomes the heft of all that steel. You might be thinking that FWD blow's, but damn that car was fun. 21psi on stock engine with a few bolt ons hell yea!
Oh yea, not to mention full leather interior, heated seats, digital display unit thingy, classy interior, the bitches love it. None of that can be said bout an S13 |

if ur paying for the car with your money then buy what you want.
unless "your" money is allowance or something? I don't understand what goes on with kids these days... your money = your choice |

A 240sx is NOT a good car to try and convince your parents to let you have... You gotta have time and money on your side, as they are old cars, many of which have had abusive pasts. I've had 4 240's, personally. I loved em, but man did they turn into money pits.
If you're gonna get a 240, get an s14. In my exeperience, my s14 has been so much better on maintenance and function than any of my s13s were.

I think you're parents have the right idea.
When you can live on your own and can afford it buy whatever car you want. You'll appreciate and take care of it better than if it were just handed to you. No ill feelings, just my honest opinion. |

It's impossible to kill yourself in a 240. I've seen so many pictures of wrecked 240's which looked like instant death, yet all of the people walked away with scratches at most.

97 240sx Crash Test Rating:
http://www.safercar.gov/portal/site/...=Passenger+Car Its good enough, seen many crashed 240s, online and in junkyards. They seem to fare well. I believe that S14s have side impact beams.

Umm....how about no. A roll bar has possible benefits in a street car(as long as it's far enough from your head), but a full cage is a big safety no no. Unprotected head + rollcage = I hope your family has enough money saved up for a decent funeral.
