Question Dash and AC Control lights Problem

Hey guys, have a 93 240sx with HUD which still works along with the dimmer control. But the lights for the AC control and speedo/rpm back lighting do not work.

I checked out the TCU box and it doesn't look burned out. I also tried grounding the red/yellow stripe wire just to see if anything happens and that didn't work. Also checked all fuses and they were good. Any ideas?

Just double checked the fuse in the kick panel. Still no go, thanks though.

Just got the car, last owner said he pulled the fuse because he doesn't like lights at night, I took him at his word. Low and behold replaced the fuse and it doesn't work. I've emailed the last owner but no response yet. I find it a little odd that the HUD still works but none of the back lighting works.

Found the problem. It was a loose connector to the speedo, unfortunately after juggling the connector around I accidentally let the back of the cluster touch the top of the steering column and shorted it. Poof, smoke and shit. NOW my HUD is gone, AND I have no lights. I feel like a retard.

Does a non HUD cluster plug right in? And does anyone have a a hud or non huhd cluster for the cheap? =\
