plate on top of camshafts cracked!!!!!!!
okay here is my problem and hopefully it helps others out as much at it will help me.....
there is a L shaped piece of metal that bolts on to cover the chains in between the 2 cam shafts. (to prevents them from i dont know what )thats what im trying to figure out well the thing is that it was just bouncing around making a real loud clicking noise. okay so i removed my engine cover and removed that piece walla... i thought i had solved the problem turns out that when i bolted it back up now the chains where hitting the top of the engine cover..... so what i want to figure out is what is that L shaped piece of metal for and why are my chains hitting and causing it to snap and now they are hitting the top of my engine cover.... please help me this is what it should look like here is where the L shaped plate should be bolted but the 2 bolts are still there and the plate cracked here is where the chain is hitting the top of my head cover this is the L shaped metal and where it cracked this is a side shot of the L shaped metal and where they cracked please help me and bump my thread -Art |

are you saying it's still hitting the inside of the valve cover tho?
in this case you will need to add tension to the chain or replace the chain if it has too much slack

Yeah man it's just a chain guide. Both my 240's broke off. According to Nissan it is a non replaceable part, (throw away). If the chain has too much slack in it, it might be time for a new timing chain tensioner and chain too.

If you can get a FSM the chain isnt that bad. Took me a weekend of dabbing at it for a few hours here and there. But try re-setting your timing if the chain isnt hitting/rubbing 1st. better than ruining your poor KA. $500 is very high since any low milage KA i've seen for sale is no more than $500, I paid $600 for a DOHC KA and Tranny from a 97' with 70k miles.

FSM = Factory Service Manual. They make a Chilton's/Haynes Manual look like a retarded child cast away when born at the factory. Helps you know what you are doing when repairing just about anything on your car. They are vehicle specific.
