cam gear question-prolly a stupid one!
I think the answer to my question is no, but I couldn't find it anywhere, so here it goes.
Is it possible to cut the SR20DET valve cover to expose the cam gears for adjustment purposes? I see this on several cars, but have never seen it on the SR20.

No.
Oil will spray everywhere. You typically see that on cars with timing BELTS...i.e., no lubrication required. - Brian

the open valve cover is only on belt drive cars likes hondas, supras, mr2 etc sr20s are pimp motors and therefore require chains , but if you want to get dirty just run it with no valve cover, its the same as cutting your valve cover and you make sure everything is workin lol
