240SX ISIS Stainless Steel Braided Power Steering Line Install and Review

240SX ISIS Stainless Steel Braided Power Steering Line Install and Review

A plague to the 240 family is a soft, leaky power steering system. In an effort to help correct this, Enjuku Racing’s ISIS product line offers a Stainless Steel Power Steering Line. On top of replacing leaky lines and improving steering feel, the line also allows for more clearance when going turbo and makes converting from 1989/1990 power steering systems to 1991+ much easier.

The line comes with everything you need for installation. The installation it’s self is not bad at all. Just expect to get a little messy with the power steering fluid.

After installation I noticed the steering feel is more direct and turn in is more responsive. I have not experienced any leaks from the line after about a month or so and a drift event.

Tools needed:

A set of metric open ended wrenches
Drain pan
New Power Steering fluid

Installation:

Step one: Make some room for you to work by removing the air filter and mass air flow sensor.

Step two: Place a drain pan under the rack to catch the fluid and remove the bottom line going into the steering rack.

*note* mine was old and broke so don’t be surprised if yours does too

Step 3: Remove the bracket holding the lines inside fender.

Step four: Remove the top part of the hose from the power steering pump.

Step five: Insert the fittings into the PS pump and Rack separately from the line using the washers that came with the line.

*note* Be careful of the o-ring on the fitting and don’t lose it.

Step six: Install the line onto the fittings and snug it down.

Step 7: Fill with new fluid and give the wheels a few turns back and forth with the engine running to circulate the fluid and you are good to go!

I don't know the length of the line but there was plenty as you can see in the pictures.

Thanks for the write up! I'd love to see how these fit around an SR. I don't think I have the room to route a line like that as you do.

So this eliminates that hard line, w/electrical connector, that crosses over the cross member... What is that sensor for BTW?

it sits pretty in an SR, i got one, been running it for about 3 months, with absolutely NO problems with it... also noticed a firmer feel to the steering... and the line routes right past the turbo, it has a bit of excess in the line, which in our case is good cause you have multiple routing options...

as for that sensor, all it's for it to tell the ECU to kick up the idle a tad to compensate for the belt drag by the PS pump working..... i have minimal difference with the ISIS line...

be like me and match that shiz up with a TF 1 peice braided clutch line... shit's so hot right now...

will it actually cause catastrophic damage to the pump and rack?

I thought it had something to do with leaking...IDK how though.

What is more viscous? ATF or PS fluid

I will be installing mine soon. I know Josh (Yoshi) personally and told enjuku he told me to get one when he seen my hose drip a few drop.....they gave me free shipping...

I have an sr so I will try to remember to post some pics for yall.

As a side note: The fittings appear to be -6an however Im unsure of the other male end. I doubt anyone could make them for them selves and cheaper considering the prices of an fittings however its nice to know that I have some -6 stuff laying around and if there ever was a issue I would be able to easially repair it.

That also might be a nice bit of info for the guy that was asking about his z31, you may see if they can just send you the fittings and then you could make your own line with your own hose and fittings.

Does the TF 1 piece braided clutch line have a 90 deg bend where it mounts to the slave? If not time to get the Baker one I have.

Scared to do dirt drops for fear of snapping your braided clutch line? No problem!

UPDATE: My power steering still makes a grinding noise. I checked the fluid and the level is fine. I even had the line bled. Oh well, as long as it works fin no biggie.

I installed mine the other day. It really was one of them things that should be simple and strait forward but tended to piss me off being difficult. The hose is really stiff and makes it difficult to get the fittings lined up well enough to prevent cross threading. I really wish they would have went with push lock style an fittings instead of having the fittings already pressed on the hose. If I would have known then (at the time of ordering) what I know now I would have seen if it would be possible to just order the fittings that plug into the rack and pump and made the rest of the assemble myself with an goodies.

I do however think I am going to like this damn thing allot though now that its installed. The fitting that goes on the pump from the factory does seem to be a bottle neck somewhat. The holes that are in the banjo fitting do seem small and it seems like it may be hard for it to flow through. Also my high pressure line (factory) was swelling and leaking which is why I replaced it. However I swear that the steering input now is much easier! The steering wheel turns MUCH easier than ever before!

you do realize that Power Steering hose is WAY different from regular braided stuff...P/S hose is about the same as hydro lines. VERY HIGH pressue. you can NOT use push lock type fitting....just wanted to clear that up for future reference. you can also build a line using earls, or russel lines and fitting for a decent price, and WAY better quality.
