Wheel experts - Volk wheels Question

I dont know if this belongs in the technical section, if not mods feel free to move it.

So I picked up a set of old school Volk GR-C's yesterday, and now I'm abit confused as to how these wheels work. Their two piece wheels produced in 1992, the sticker on the inside lip says the wheels are 5x114.3, BUT when I bought the wheels the seller gave me spacers with them saying he needed these to make them fit on his skyline. I assumed he just meant for clearance issues, then when i got them home I realized the bolt patten on the actual wheel is 5x100 and the spacers adapt the patten from 114.3 to 100. So i did some reseach and came to the conclusion that volk only made these wheels in 5x100, but sold the needed adapters with the wheels for other 5 lug applications. I am Right here?

Second the spacers only came with just ovber 1/2 of the studs. does anyone know where i can get replacement studs like theses?

Third, the lug holes in the wheels are EXTREMELY Shallow and narrow, tuner lugs could fit width wise, but the holes are less then an inch deep and the ring for the center caps sits basically flush with the top of the lug holes, so if their any longer then the hole size the center caps wont be able to go on. Did Volk make special lug nuts for these? or can I get open end tuner lugs or something?

Lastly, I'm missing one of the center caps, so if anyone knows where I can get one or two I will love you forever.

Sorry for the long post, any help is appreciated.

I have GR-C's on my Fairlady. I've been told that its a 3 piece wheel and not 2. I'll know for sure in the next week or so when they get unbolted and refinished. I'll try to snap a pic of the nuts your supposed to use for them. I don't think a regular tuner lug will work. Mine use a hex key (11mm IIRC) and have a different shank than a regular tuner lug. I have the spacers as well for mine and you need a shallow nut (its about a 3/8" thick) to bolt them to your hubs and then you bolt the wheel to them. Your centre caps look different from mine. I just have a flat top peice where yours looks like theres a centre cap within the centre cap. Mine are like the one in this link...I'm also looking for a single centre cap or something that fits the thread. Can you take pics of your centre cap apart? I'm actualy geting to the point of giving up and having a set machined...

Yes, their 3 piece wheels, I just found that out when I took them apart, lol. What size are yours? I'm going to refinish mine myself since theres no curb rash so its just a matter of stripping the clear and polishing them up. I'm looking into getting new "super fine rim" stickers made that are on the lip.

Talking to a few people now that have these wheels I'm going to need special Volk lug nuts.... fack, Thats not going to be too easy to find...

I'll take a pic of my center cap for you, All the GR-C's I've seen have had your cap, never seen one like mine before... I know a few different Volk wheels use the same center cap, but different outside rings, so you might be able to source a cap but just get a ring made.

Jspec, I'm thinking old volk wheels since they used the same center caps only came in a 100mm bolt pattern (5x100 or 4x100) or else they would have the make a bigger center cap? So when a 114.3 pattern was ordered they sold spacers with them?? thats my theory anyways.

Thanks for the replys.

Also, if anyone has experience with 3 piece wheels, Is it possible to break the bead on the wheel, take all the bolts out and just dismount the wheel with the tire still on it? Seems like it would be possible but I dunno....

im not sure where you can get replacement studs. but you can get 5x100 ---> 5x114.3 adapters/spacers on ebay or get them custom made. it might be better to just get new ones instead of re using those.

I think I have a solution for the spacers. If i drill out the stud holes to 1/2" That will allow me to press stock studs into them, I'd just need to grind acouple mm off the side of the stock studs as they JUST hit the flat spot made for the other studs.

Edit: Heres the pic of the center cap for "-m-". I'm not sure if you can see from the pic but there is threads in the gap between the "rays" center and the outter aluminum, maybe the "Rays VR" cap screws into there and is removable?

My volks came with the same situation.

You can get different spacer/adapter sizes if you're not happy with those. As for the studs, you're better off buying a new set cause you'll have a hard time finding replacements.

The center cap might be obtainable through your local importer but don't cross your fingers. Lug nuts should be the same as the GT-C's

My three peice actually consists of four peices it seem like my center peice is identical to yours although my wheel was made in 1998.

Panda Garage deals with JDM stuff and have quite a few of the Volks so they may be able to source you some lugs as well. They can't get the centre caps though...already tried .

Yeah your centre cap is quite different from mine. It almost looks like there one of the new Volk centre caps pressed into yours. My rims are 17x9 for the rear and 17x8.5 front. I have one at the wheel repair place and they are seeing if it can be fixed. If not I may be selling my centre caps one by one as they seem to be in short supply. If its fixable I've been in contact with a shop that does CNC machining and they can make me something that works. I'll likely get 4 made (they would be a simpler design than the originals though) for my rims if I can't find another one like what I have now.

I have seen one of these wheels taken apart before and the owner sealed them back up upon reassembly with some silicone IIRC. Shouldn't be a problem taking them apart with a tire on them. Mine had some curb rash when I got them so my plan is to get them refinished professionaly so that they can fill the nicks and scratches with aluminum and bring 'em back to new.

So even tho the sticker on the inside of the rim says PCD - 114.3, its not really 4/5x114.3?

Ive got an identical set of the GRC's that -M- owns, but Im missing two of the center cap inserts, so Im on the hunt aswell.

LMK if anyone decides to part out with their caps =)

I will likely be selling my centre caps (3) in the near future. Not sure what they would be worth. I know they are hard to find though. I got my rim back and its irreparable so I may just end up using them with drag slicks so having them look 100% with centre caps is moot at this point. Sorry I haven't gotten pics up of the lug shape yet...I been off with a horrible flu
