Since we're on the subject of theft prevention. Can the flimsy lock cylinders (doors and ignition) be upgraded to better ones??? Maybe from a newer Nissan model...

Just drop a VQ engine in and you get to run the Nissan NATS system which basically immobilizes your car without the key which is electronically key coded. There are good reasons for going with a VQ35 install. Theft prevention. Ever here of a G35 or 350z getting stolen? I didn't think so. NATS rules.

Personally the BEST way to prevent theft:
1. A garage with REALLY good locking thing-a-ma-jigers 2. A custom cylinder embedded into the floor of a drive way that would come up or you could slide in and lock up, basically like creating a little wall. How would you ever steal a car if you cant get it out? If anything theyll steal your rims and stereo, but youll still at least have a car. |

I got a tip for students. Its something many of us overlook but thieves might take notice: Don't put your school's license plate frame or window sticker on your daily. Its an easy tip for thieves to know where you are at during much of the day.

GNNR - you can take your tumblers out and have them "re keyed" so they dont accept the usual worn out 240 keys. Im sure 99% of you can open and sometimes start your friends 240's with your OWN keys
I went to my local lock place and it was like $15 per lock to get them re-keyed with new internals. anyone reccomend a good GPS tracking thing? The only ones i see online you either have to pay a monthly fee, needs a sim card (still a monthly fee), or you have to take the unit back out and upload the data from it. I would much rather track the car myself and then alert the real authorities, cus im sure you know its probably a ring of people doing the same cars and they have to be on zilvia/nico. |

safety glass / tint = harder to break
----------------------------------------------------------------------- reinforce your collars around the steering collum so it cant be popped easily ----------------------------------------------------------------------- when your parked to prevent a tow truck from owning your car, always use your E-brakes, make sures its in park, if you have rwd back into your parking spot and aim your wheels near a wall or a solid object so it will stop your car when it starts to move. --------------------------------------------------------------------- dont leave registration/important documents in your car carry it in your wallet or something you always have on you IF* you cant do that just hide your papers somewhere instead of in the glovebox --------------------------------------------------------------------- wrap your ecu wires in the same color --------------------------------------------------------------------- license plate locks --------------------------------------------------------------------- engrave your engine with a serial code and take a picture of it if it gets recovered = makes it unique so its easier to retrieve theres 3 thieves scouting out your car 1) electronic thief - wants your headunit, gauges, whatever else he can sell for 20 dollars on the street. usually kids who want to start trouble and make some cheap dough, usually break your windows pull out your radio and search your car for whatever else is valuable 2) car thief - wants your whole car so he can strip it at his warehouse or somewhere where theres no heat experienced/trained a part time job for him 3) stripper - wants your parts, will be willing to crowbar your hood open ( lockable hood latches = helpful) and start removing whatever he wants. just a greedy bitch who wants buy his own shit and envys yours.. IFFFF a skilled thief, who has been trained and knows what he wants. your car has no shot. He will find the weaknesses after shadowing you for a while then exploit that. Just try to find ways to make it harder/longer for him to make this possible. Or even things that will make him not even want to bother at all. Im looking to make some keyhole covers, super glue and yea pretty much a good signal to thieves. should be cheap to produce and just use super glue to hold. ![]() ![]() |

When thieves made an attempt to steal my car... they hit the glass to get into the car... tint saved the glass from breaking... alarm went off... thieves ran away. Yes... it does help.

I had my rx7 parked on the side of the road, it wasn't running at the time. I put pad locks through the hood pin holes.. Well to my suprise i came out one day and noticed that both locks were broke off and my cold pipe/bov was stolen. Put locks on again.. Got broke again, yet they didn't take anything lol. What a waist for them..
Maybe we should all carry around a car boot, and just lock that thing on wherever we park.. Try stealing a car with that :-D |

its already being done me and UNDFTD ^^^ are super paranoid and dont let anyone have any chances of taking ANYTHING. spent over 1,000 + on security. I even had a retired car thief build my security system ( to a certain extent ) lol Ive heard so many stories about theft, and ways to prevent it so why not if your going to put so much time into a car. plus its fun making my car hard as balls to steal. |

Bump from the dead, but its still important; Read this link if your serious about keeping your car.
http://www.honda-tech.com/zerothread/1794938 Quick release does nothing; - vice grips or another wheel Clubs/autolocks do nothing; - can bend it with a crowbar. Or clubbuster. Somy kill switch installs are ineffective; because you can just trace them to the source, or listen for the relay to click. The only effective route is to require a theif to unbolt a few 10mm bolts to get to the relay. while a 120db pezio is going off inside the car. I usually have 2-3 kill switches per circuit inline. An alarm does nothing without a 520t backup battery and an interior peizo siren. Disable any power door locks, and use the alarms remote to unlock your doors.. Also disable your cylinder door locks. Anyway to prevent your hood from being pop'ed is a good route. We need to take security serious here. |

^^^Its a cosmetic peice.
The goal is preventing them from getting "in" the car. In my area they will lose a finger, or risk half of their internal organs to get at your shift knob. Disable door locks, use your alarm to unlock your doors. Block off your hood release with barbwire or metal sheets. Secure your trunks. Hid your wiring using layers of loom/electrical tape/aluminum loom secured with stainless worm clamps, and zip tied securely. Once you kill a circuit, you need to secure the source. Disable all 12v outputs such as the cig lighter. Tint the windows, disable any interior lights. Your alarm should NOT be under the dash. Kill as many low current grounds as possible that prevents the car from starting. Do NOT pull the ECU fuse or ECU itself. The QR is decent if your parking for short periods of time, and it helps to not have Power steering. But from the sounds of it, even with a frozen rack, they could still turn the car pin to pin with a certain clamp with ease. Quick question for you all. On a 100% stock automatic S14, whats the chances a theif will target this car? Granted I live in a very liberal state, Where if you happen to walk up on a theif in action your either ; Getting shot, and he does no time because you said a racist remark - Hate crime act -Getting taken to court and sued for you car anyway because you said a racist remark. And you WILL lose. The officer will release your info to a theif, and a lawyer will be at your door the next day- No evidence needed. You boys in the south- every day I envy you. |

lojack only works in a few states. It doesnt have a true EWS. Read up on it, its a waste of money if you can prevent the situation happening in the 1st place. You think a police officer is going to go searching for a beacon on a saturday night? The system is not all that advanced. Id opt for more of a GPS tracking with a true EWS that pages you when your car is out of a certain parameter.
