I've done Anderson's truck trail. Rode/hiked up and then back down, that was a lot of work for a really short ride back down.
Just got a Marin 29er after my walmart 29er got stolen and haven't had time to really test it out yet. I'd join up for a sunday morning ride in San Diego. I want to get into shape and get up to Noble Canyon end of summer.

I hate to say it.. but schwalbe tires are the best tires I've ever ridden on... the nobby nic's are the most common, but prepare to hand out an arm and a leg..

I'd be down for Nobel if someone is really familiar with it. That's mostly a XC type of trail tho, huh? Nothing against XC riders, I just really hate pumping my tank up hills.
I'd like to do TW too, but with someone that's been out there recently and often. I don't want to stage up for a jump and come up short or go out too far. |

From the MTBR post:
"My bike 07 Small Santa Cruz VP Free in anodized greyish purple White Fox 40 w/ no decals sunline direct mount stem Hopetech M4 Brakes Saint Cranks 1X9 drivetrain with MRP G2 Chainguide Mavic 729's laced to hadleys (the rear is an old 108pt engagement) shaddow XT rear deraileur sunline V2 pedals Transition saddle Thomson seat post" There is a later post in that thread that he "found or had his bike returned" Not sure what to make of it.. |

Its hard to compare to 26" for me because I was always riding a bike that was too small for me to begin with, so just being a better size makes riding a lot more enjoyable.

Taller riders will truly benefit from the larger size wheel. I'm 5'3" so there is no way I'll enjoy a 29er. Let us know how it fares on dirt. |

Yea, I'm like 5'7 and I still feel off on a 29'r. They're cool as hell tho cuz I feel like I'm rolling over things without effort. It's easy to haul ass on those things too, =P.

Anyone in OC/LA/SD down for a night ride this week? I'm thinking about Tomorrow night around 730pm at either Blackstar or The Luge in OC. Let me know if your down and have lights.

you think this bike would be hard to control in the air? (Rider skill is not a variable)

I LOVE Trek bikes, however, if you want to go dirt jumping, buy a dirt jump bike. If you just want to ride trails, then AT LEAST get a 4300. They have double walled rims, and a fork that can actually handle a little bit of ridding. Still very entry level though. Otherwise yea, get yourself a short travel freeride bike.

You can find a downhill bike for $600. Look around on craigslist and stuff. I'm sure it'll be worth it. I've abuse the hell out of my bike and have yet to really true the wheels or have any issues with the frame. It's a pretty solid rig.
But no really... Who wants to hit TW. I'm gonna go look into this Lake Hodges and see what the deal is with that trail. |

lake hodges, is a pretty basic trail like fullerton loop.
i have only been there a few times and its been more than a year since i went, so i dont really know the trail to well. but from what i remember it wasnt too hard to remember either. if not lake hodges, it was an exit off the 15 freeway right south of valley pkwy . ill have to look it up again, i forget.

It's been a while since I've been to TW so I'm gonna go and scout the trail between 11am and noon. If anyone wants to roll through PM me.
*they show up on my phone as regular email messages.* Hopefully we can get enough people to come out and learn the trail to where we can get a good bombing group. =] Anyways, I'll let you guys know how technical it is and the condition of the trail and whatnot. Hope you LA guys don't let that 405 closing kick your ass tomorrow. =] |

Is there a lot of climbing over there?
So TW was pretty fun. Just took the "G4" trail and ran into "Insanity" on the way down. There's a lot of fun kickers and gaps to clear. There are some really technical spots that you have to ride the trail a couple of times so you can prepare for them. If not, you'll end up launching off a 6 foot high ledge instead of just going over a hill, haha. I might go again if I get intimidate by the traffic by the traffic and not go to Fullerton. Hey, Vatche, meeting up at the same time and place tomorrow? |

I want to go ride around at hodges, and see if it was the same trail i remember
i got my bike up and running again, re adjusted the rear deraileur, after breaking the hanger, i guess it got thrown off a bit. went for a bike ride down the street with my little brother and i got a flat on the rear, i look and there are little goat head thorns, so i walk my bike back home change the tube, and as soon as i finish the front went flat... so then i fixed that and now im out of tubes, i went through 5 in like 2 weeks, and i have been riding this bike for almost 2 years and i never once had a flat. haha

Irvine Ranch Natural Landmarks Depending on time, I may go all the way up Blackstar to Beeks place. Any takers? |
