I was thinking of another meet over spring break, either at Mission Bay, or maybe my house (huge lot by the pool, empty 90% of the time). Anyone interested?

everybody's welcome to come, onebadm5 and I are currently deciding the location, with ABSOLUTELY NO HELP FROM SAGA240!! (ahem.......) . I projected date is 3/30/02. We will be just meeting. S15dude I thought about cruising, but we dont have the right equipment to document it, and most of the socal members aren't into that. so its not going to work. I will however see what I can do.

well, as far as locations, we can have it about anywhere. we could go out to mission bay/beach, maybe ski beach. as far as food, im not paying for everyone's hotdogs, so maybe we can do a potluck type of something. plus we should bring/plan something to do besides just eat and look at cars. i'd be down if we rented some sea-doo's and tore up the bay, or if someone brought a voleyball set or something. im just tryin to throw some ideas out. any thoughts are welcome. the key thing is the number of people attending: if its just a few, then we'll stop at In-N-Out on the way and pick up food, look at each other's cars, take pics, and roll. if it's gonna be a lot of people, than maybe we can plan to have some activities. im fine with either one, but i just wanna know so grant and i dont waste our time planning an event no one will come to.
as far as cruising, im sure we could organize something. the main thing is communication. i've found that observing other people, this is the key factor. i have a set of Motorola Talk About FRS radios, if enough people had them, we could easily get together and cruise out, maybe up torrey pines and the 101, or somewhere else. oh yeah, if we do decide to cruise, we need AT LEAST one person with a radar/laser detector; that much is given. think about it. |

i bought a set of motorola talkabouts for 70 bucks a year or 2 ago. i saw them at fry's or Price club for around the same price fairly recently. they are definitely worth it. |

ok let me talk to kevin and the other so cal members, I will see whats is up. About food and what not either every body pays for a barbeque, or everyone bring their own stuff, we'll see how it goes. About cruising, we'll need enough people interested. but we'll see.

ok so to my understanding this is a tentative schedule of events:
10ish- we meet at Mission Bay, bring a bite to eat, check out each others cars, talk, oh yeah, grant dont forget the frisbee a few hours after that, or whenever we get tired of standing around, if we have enough people, we'll go for a cruise. let me say this now, first of all, the organizers of this event do not support or promote street racing, or any form of aggressive driving where public safety can be jeopardized. Drivers demonstrating such actions may be asked to leave at any time. so no horsing off in the parking lot. i've seen that at many of the BMW cruises, cops seem to be attracted to big groups of cars, so don't give them a reason to pull us over. main thing about the cruise is we are gonna try and tape parts of it. me and s15dude will be pulling camera duties in my borrowed '01 I30. communication will be key, cause we need to coordinate with the drivers to get the shots we are looking for. it would be VERY helpful if you could get or borrow some FRS radios, they come in very handy for these types of events. i have a pair, and would be willing to lend the other one to whoever is leading the pack. (oh yeah, if anyone has a radar/laser detector, please tell me or grant cause that would also come in helpful in our quest to avoid cops) then, after are successful and FUZZ FREE cruise, we're aiming to end at somewhere like UTC. maybe the parking structure over by sears and sport chalet (would be a great spot for some overhead group shots) plus, im sure there will be some kind of food for everyone at the food court, so that's one less thing we have to worry about. after food, we'll probably all be tired, so we can go crash at grant's house (just kidding) the route and meeting place will be planned in detail as the month progresses. hopefully we can have a fun, safe, and cop free day. |

sounds very good to me and like that we are just cruising and no wreackless driving allowed. so what kind of shots are you going to be looking to get and where you think we are going to cruise? beaches, backroads, etc... i will definatly have a camera for pics too.

We should definately cruise. Like Onebadm5 said I will be filming and we will edit in some music or something and upload it to the internet. UTC is the perfect place to end the cruise cuz it has a great food court, and lots of parking, and for people in LA it is in the north part of San Diego.

Ok after talking to Kevin, here's whats planned:
10am-3pm 30-March-02 at East Mission Bay Park in San Diego Meet/greet/show/shine from 10am till 3pm! Wax your car, bring your cameras, and enough gas money to get home! Sodas will be provided, but if you want to eat, you'll have to BYO food.. There will be a cruise for all those who want to participate at 3pm from the park and possibly to a restaurant for some dinner. Directions will follow, but from LA it's basically 5 South to Clairemont drive and take a left. You'll see the parking lot as you exit. and from SD, go 8 west to the 5 and then North to the same exit. If you have any questions you can email myself at [email protected] or Grant at [email protected] -Kevin Here is the address to the information center so you can get directions via mapquest. San Diego Visitor Information Center 2688 East Mission Bay Dr. San Diego, CA 92109 -Grant |

yea, last time we couldnt get anything settled saga240 and I had a hard time setting a date since it was so close to christmas, so basically Grumpy decided to help us out, and organize everything. I took the initiative this time to contact the socal group and Fresh alloy members and do some planning in advance.
But no, with out the help of Kevin and Pasha(onebadm5), I dont think i would have been able to manage.. |

well, for the cruise, we definitely wanna mix it up. from watching other videos, i think we should bust some shit on the fwy (a line of cars in a drive by, and a 5 wide row attack with the camera car out front) i believe that the tentative cruise route is probably gonne be something like Imperial Beach, over the bay bridge, thru PB and LJ or torrey pines, then back up to UTC. we will have plenty of time to scout out a route. hopefully, if i finish my damn english paper today, i can go check it out later. yeah, the main reason we are stressing no horseplay is not only cause we dont wanna get ticketed, but i dont wanna be responsible for some dude with an SR swap that gets his car impounded cause someone else was doing doughnuts in the parking lot or doing dumb shit on the road. we'll definitely have fun, but lets try and be smart about it. |

about filming the cruise, you see DTM's movies, very impressive, that is because all bmw's are similar in look. but if we have s13's in coupe and hatch, s13a, s14, s14mc crusing, it'll just be a big mess who agrees w/ me? thus we should groupe 'em, mwa ha ha

No I dont agree that all BMW's look alike. There will be no segragation among the 240sx's as it will be much more of a hassle. -------------------------------------------------------- Kevin and I are going to go through the route once. During the day of the meet people who want to cruise must be prepared for a 15-20 mi drive to cruise around. Kevin will lead the pack while I am going to be at the end. Pasha (onemadm5) and Rory (s15dude) will be all over the place, shooting videos and photos in the I30, so no hassling them. anyways here are VISUAL directions to the meeting area provided by Pasha and me. http://home.earthlink.net/~fhsiao/meet/ |
