NX1600 cluster swap VSS???
I love the cluster and everything functions properly except for the speed still reading double after swapping to a single cam VSS. I also have an Auto nx1600 VSS which I pulled with the cluster at the scrapyard. The nx VSS is from a 92 and will not fit in the sensor hole on my dohc tranny. If you or someone you know has got their cluster reading the correct speed, please let me know which speed sensor you/they used. I'm out of ideas and have been searching all week. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I have a 5 speed ka24de and the original speed sensor. I have tried a 5 speed ka24e speed sensor, still reads double. I'm 99% positive the wiring is done right. The cluster came from a 92 auto nx1600 with a ga16de. The only thing I can think of that I havent tried is to get a auto ka speed sensor. Is there a difference between the auto/manual speed sensors or a difference between the dual/single cam speed sensors? I've researched this for over a week now and cant seem to find a picture of the actual pinion for the auto and manual speed sensors so I really dont know if they have a different number of teeth or read differently. Im sure its possible in an s14 although I have not tried to do the research or have an extra cluster lying around. Any information helps, thanks again.

that makes no sense, i have and five speed car that i did the five speed swap on i left the auto ecu and cluster in and everything works perfectly even all the clusters i have had and wired work perfectly fine never had this magical double speed nonsense that people talk about from time to time. theres nothing integrated into a cluster that tells it if there is an auto or manual speed sensor in there. thats like saying that i have to put an auto speed sensor in my tranny or my AUTO HUD CLUSTER will double WHICH ITS NOT

ive done it and got it to work...like i said theres 4 different clusters, the wireing has nothing to do with it reading doble...let me see if i can find one for you that will work if you want to buy it but they are not cheap something like $120

Update: After trying the auto speed sensor, it still reads double. The speed sensor was a bit different though.
Thanks for the help Dark spec, I've been trying to find different speed sensors on courtesyparts.com but you can't really tell which ones are which. I'm guessing you need a 35-36 tooth VSS pinion? Still guys, any help is much appreciated. Thanks. |

I've been looking at these. It seems fairly easy to wire up but how do you adjust it to the correct speed is my concern? If I don't find a speed sensor I may go with one of these.

purplove, you need an s14 speed sensor (plastic housing) and you probably have a 93 year model cluster (dosnt matter if its atx or mtx). i wrote up a very detailed how to with differences between both style clusters ------> TexasNissans.com there is also videos in that how-to of the same cluster reading double with an s13 sensor then changing to an s14 sensor and it reads perfect. |

I havent checked this thread for a while, but that s14 speed sensor worked fine. It's funny how everyone told me to get dakota digitals and auto speed sensors(which don't fit at all). good call corby.
