S152JZ . too much pressure from the 2J steering pump for the s14 steering box?

Hi there. Seems that the 2JZ steering pump have so much pressure for the s14 steering box, or at least that´s what we guess.

This past round we can not make it to the qualifying, due massive leaks again in the steering box, the nissan 240sx s14 steering box plastic o-rings literally exploded after only 5 minutes in the track -a very curvy track-

anyone knows if other people with 2JZ swaps are experimenting problems like this one?

We are cooling the steering oil with a laminova, maybe it is not enough?

seems that the people run with no steering mods in the swaps to cut the pressure, then we don´t know what can be the cause

If the problem it´s the pressure, my idea is to cut the spring who let the pressure go to the steering box from the steeering pump

but I don´t know how much cut or even if there is a good idea to do that,

thank you very much

I run my 2jz s13 with a oem rack and have had 0 issues. I drift the shit out of my car and have never had a single leak. Maybe you have a bad pump or rack?

OP, I have heard this too.

I haven't had any problems *yet* on my 2js13.

My idea is to run an underdrive pulley on the ps pump.

If you have a machinist, that may be an option for you - and you could save a little weight also.

massive thanks guys for the answers

blakcr, it is not a bad idea, but how much underdrive it? If too much, maybe then you can have problems in the other way, too less pressure. Doing the spring thing, you can have a new spring and cut the old one a little and testing if it is enough.

anywaym, there is people that do not have this problem and is into drifting, so maybe the s14 steering box was not in good condition, I don´t know

thank you very much. Maybe you guys can help me with another question

When your car are parked with the engine running, if you move the steering wheel can you hear any sound on the steering box? I hear the same sound that you hear when you are out of steering oil, but with oil in my case, and another friend have the same sound with a S14 LS swap.

If you hear the same sound there is no overpressure then, if not maybe we have overpressure there.

I´m asking this to try to eliminate some causes.

thank you very much!

Make sure you are using dexron 3 for your power steering fluid.

That's what the Toyota ps pump uses.

If you use conventional ps fluid, it's the wrong consistency.

I am running an RB26 fitted with a Mercedes W204 power steering pump. The pump is rated at 128 BAR. Thats right, 128 Bar working pressure.I do not have any problems except pulling the engine revs down when idling and turning.
