I started sounding like a fanboy a long time ago. Fine with me.
But there is no denying the GTR is near perfection in any way shape or form. Other then subjective visual appeal.

ugh...hybrids.... I love the sound of an engine... i hope sport cars don't end up being all electric. it would kill me to hear nothing but wind as I'm flying down a straight, not knowing when to shift.

By then you won't be shifting anyway.

meh I'd rather they just keep the GTR the way it is.
well, a manual tranny option can't hurt. it's not like you buy a car like that to save gas. a lot of the existing hybrids these days are a bit of joke anyways. Nissan's own Altima Hybrid gets only 3 more mpg vs. the non-hybrid altima. Does the meager fuel savings even justify the added complexity of the car and added entry-cost? If you're going to get a Prius or Insight w/ over 40 mpg that's great. It's something closer to an all electric like the Volt then even better. It's a car that's built to serve a purpose and does so exceptionally. Lot of the other 'hybrids' out there are just laughable, there is no meaningful gains in fuel consumption (if they aren't gas guzzlers all the same, like the large SUV hybrids). I can't argue with 600 hp. Well, it's a bit over-kill and appears counter-intuitive, if your objective is fuel economy. But still, it's nice. I just wish it were attained with a more conventional, proven, (and perhaps reliable) means. I just wish Nissan would focus on building a performance car well, and disregard the current fad of hybrid engines. |

And with an electric motor on the new GTR, that means massive torque off the line.

So I went for a ride in a 2010 r35 gt-r last night.
I shit and creamed in my pants. Ever ride montezuma's revenge at knott's berry farm? 0-60 in 3.2. It feels the same. Imagine buttterflies in your stomach of such magnitude...undescribable that is all. any other experiences? |

I've been in one driven in anger, and it didn't really light my pants on fire. Yes, the acceleration is savage, and its the only car I've been in where the rate of acceleration seems to increase as it gets faster, but the lack of driver involvement left me a little disappointed. Corner entry and exit speeds are also silly fast, but you literally just point and stomp. It seems to remove the challenge of driving at speed, so left me a little cold. If your main priority is getting around a racetrack as fast as possible, then undeniably its an excellent car, but I just didn't feel thrilled when I was in it. I've been in other cars of similar power and they definitely got the adrenaline pumping more.

Lets not forgot about the KERs (80HP on tap at the push of a button!) systems in F1. I would hazard to guess the technology behind the 160hp Electric engine they stick in the GTR will be akin to the KERS system. If that is so, then yes the car will have insane amounts of instant torque and acceleration. Given that Renault did use KERS last year. I am sure that tech is headed to Nissan.

Thats exactly what I said. If you want to get from point A to point B as quickly as possible, get a GTR, but some people find more enjoyment in other aspects of the driving experience.

Yeah if you call clubs "Disco-Techs" then yeah orange might seem nice to you... jk . When it comes to sports cars I prefer the more standard colors; black, white, and charcoal gray.... red to me is too flashy and orange is just wrong IMO.

2012 Nissan GT-R officially goes 0-60 in 2.9 seconds — Autoblog

2.9 seconds is fucking absurd. Nissan has bent physics.
A Koenigsegg CCXR has 1,004 hp, weighs 2,822lbs dry, costs $2.4 million, and it does the same 2.9 seconds.

No, and Ferrari will probably make another manual car either. It's going away entirely in supercars.

i get that it's just progress, and i'm in no position to own anything of the sort, but it feels like such a copout move to stop making "the real thing".

I welcome the death of the manual transmission. Dual clutch gearboxes are amazing, you get the best of both worlds, automatic and manual. I never quite understood what people say about feeling "more involved." I've been driving manual transmissions for the last 15 years, simply because dual clutch gearboxes were either not readily available or not affordable. Once I test drove a couple cars like the new GT-R, new Evo MR, and the 997 with PDK, it was amazing, so much better than manual, and I still felt just as involved in driving as I have in any other car I've owned. Now my left foot is available for braking, and I can have both hands on the wheel, that's awesome.
