s14 Need help with cat.

I am going to ordera 3" converter today from ebay but I was wondering three things 1) Go with magnaflow carsound or Catco ( not sure if they are the same but there is $25 difference)? 2) is there an O2 bung on the current converter? 3) what should the overall length of the converter be with the flanges welded on? It's for a 96 240 with a Hotshot header and Megan exhaust BTW. Yes I know I didn't search much but it would take longer than I have time for ( at work ) to look it all up. Any info I can get is great the faster I get it is better, thanks again and sorry for the noobie move with the search thing. ME=

I work right next to a muffler shop. The guy says that highflows are no better than your OEM honeycomb catalytic converter. Some "high flow" cats are just rebadged universal OEM cats, with a higher price tag. But if you live in CA, HF cats usually suck balls. If you buy the cheaper one, they just have less "stuffing", and pretty much wont serve you any purpose, other than pollute more.

I've tested a 95 Miata with 30k miles, and a brand new Flying Miata HF cat. No matter how hot I got it, it wouldn't pass emissions. Few weeks later, he came by with a new OEM cat, it passed with damn near zero emissions.

I'm not sure if 96+ has an 02 bung on the cat, but I know 95s and older do not. The cat is on the lower portion of the exhaust manifold, it's not the one located under the driver's seat. I believe that's just a resonator.

I belive N.Y. is just the visual inspection right now and from what I've seen so far every converter is for 89-98 240sx with no year specific application. I really don't want to spend the $150 plus shipping it's going to cost me to get one already made up especially since I can do the work myself. It's only going to cost about $65 in parts to get the thing made so that part is what's holding me back from ordering it now.
