I keep hearing of events out east and west, but no one seems to bring up the strong racing community that is established in the Midwest. Unique (I think) to our region is the Midwest Council. A small handful of us on the board belong and can answer more questions, but basically it is a council of smaller car clubs in the midwest (mostly in IL and WI, with several in chicago alone) that run independent races as clubs and then hold much larger races at bigger venues (like Blackhawk farms, Road America, Gingerman and Grattan) as a council.
It's easy. To join just find the local club nearest you and give them $40. You'll be entitled to discounts on races as a member and that fee also entitles you to MC events. Usually there is a break on the member vs. non member fee and in about 3 events you will have paid for your memebership. There has already been one or two driving schools this year and there are four total scheduled for the summer. $85 for a full track day in your car with a personal instructor. I must say it was a lot of fun and I have a lot of learning to do. There is a huge variety of events like parking lot autox, last week they held one on a go-kart track, high speed autox (on a real track), wheel to wheel racing, and other events held within the clubs. Usually its another good way to meet people who know a lot about cars, and they are actually real people (not that message boards aren't fun). I hope to see more of you out there.
