Thanks everyone for all the advice and input. Much appreciated.
Unfortunately I don't have a local dealer since I'm in Ohio... Few ?'s: Panda garage? Who sells those? I might as well save for a Zeta 3...who's the best to get one from? Thanks Paul |

PG: http://www.pandagarage.com/Interior/PG%20seats.htm Their seats are the same as what SPL used to sell. Not fia like the higher end brides and sparcos but definately stiffer than buddy club. |

Here is what Status FIA hardware looks like today:
Lets see Bride, Sparco, Recaro, Buddy Club, F1, etc.... This needs to be a source of good info on seats, not opinions. |

I am pretty damn close to your size. I have a Sparco EVO (I guess its called the EVO1 now) and nagisa rails. great seat. Save a bit more and get a legit seat you wont regret it.

Anything in between can be adjusted. The brackets on the rails have slots that can be adjusted to center the seat to the wheel. |

Find the seat that fits.
The buddy club is nice, well its very flimsy, fades as well. I still like it though, fits me perfectly. I have sat in brides they are all "nice" but its useless if its not snug/tight.

so it looks like the majority vote is for the buddy club seats. however, what does he plan to do with the car? if you plan to race or compete do you know what to look for in the seat? The best bang for your buck does not necessarily mean the cheapest good looking seat.
check the year on the FIA sticker. or if it even has one. check the rule book for what competition you want to race, so you know what you can squeeze by with. But you dont have to if you just want a bucket seat to use in drift get togethers/events/parties |

If he was racing he would've started this thread... Anyways, most people buy used seats that are, "fia approved" Yet fail to notice the expiration date is already up. OP: Just buy the buddy club then save up for another seat and test fit other seats till you find another one you like then sell the old seat. done.

Who cares if its an old date? It's not like its a piece of fruit that is going to spoil. It's the same way with helmets. They might be technically "expired"..but you still have peace of mind that the seat was passed through rigorous safety standards.

Also, Racing organizations are constantly tested and evaluating crashes to see were standards need to be improved or changed. What was considered safe in 1995 and 2000 may not be in 2005.

yes but saftey standards change. The thickness of the fiberglass might be different or the mounting points, pads. but still, im sure for street and occasional track use itll be fine.

I threw up that pic to show exactly what you get with Status and I challenge others to provide pics of the Bride, Recaro, Sparco, Buddy Club and any other seat to show what you are paying for. The term "safety" and "FIA" have come up on this thread and I thought i would add a picture, not an opinion. My bad. |

^^ i dont think its so much a problem with you posting a picture, its probably that he doesnt know what the hell the picture is trying to say(i dont). we see a nut+bolt but have no idea what its for. is it to fasten the seat to a rail?

We are both right considering that there are neither 100% plastic or 100% fiberglass seats. I just call them fiberglass because thats what sparco/bride etc calls them. |

It's a shitty picture dude.... It's a picture of a nut and a bolt... I got nothing with my second hand SPG and am using a no name rail and the seat has no problems whatsoever.
So far I've owned two SPG's... One SPG with a 1995 FIA cert and my new, used seat is a Pro Racer SPG (another FIA certified seat) I'm dieing to sit in when I return... I have nothing but love for Recaro as they're the only seat I've sat in that doesn't piss me off.... I've sat in plenty of Bride's and a few Charge Speed and a couple of no name seats. I <3 Recaro. Hell, my SPG took a HMMWV starter to the back of it and was fine... Also my SR3 is another great seat.. Doesn't hold for shit but it's also built for a bigger person. It's comfortable as fuck too. I've had such great experience with my second hand seats that Recaro is all I'd recommend. Edit: Both my SPG and Pro SPG are made from plastic and have an FIA sticker on them..... I thought I had a picture of the FIA sticker but that seems to be the only picture I have of the SPG. Edit again: Interesting... The seat looks like straight up plastic though but I'm not doubting that there could be some fiberglass used as the seat feels too light to be solid plastic. |

Point Im trying to make is "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR". However, unlike everyone on this thread, im trying to prove the point with pictures because otherwise its just opinion. If people are calling Ebay seats unsafe, post a pic of the mounting hardware, it will tell you what you're paying for. If people say the Recaro are awesome, post a pic of the mounting hardware. I for one want to see it. You can say "this seat is unsafe", "this seat is flimsy", "this seat's cloth will fade", "this seat's fabric wears", blah blah blah........... but at the end of the day if you dont have pictures to back it up its all Internet rumors. NOTE TO SELF: Dont post pics just opinions. |

Scottie, pictures don't even tell half the story with seats, and also keep in mind that the best hardware in the world isn't going to prevent a crappy seat shell from snapping.
Edit: And this isn't to say that Status seats aren't nice, because I don't think that. Last edited by naed240sx; 01-22-2008 at 08:10 PM.. |
