I am in desperate need of a new head unit, but I want one that plays MP3's, CD's and CD-R's and preferably has a blue display. I was thinking about the Blaupunkt San Jose. Does anyone have any reviews of this unit or any other suggestions or anything for sale? I am on a relatively tight budget.

i have blaupunkt components, and they arent very good. whatever you do, dont buy an aiwa mp3 player. i would, if i had known better, gone with a panasonic or jvc. alpine makes great headunits, but i am not sure about blaupunkt. check www.epinions.com.
also, it depends how nice of a system you want. will you be amping up the speakers in the future, or adding a sub? for interior speakers to be amped up, you want a front and rear preamp output, and for a sub you want a sub preamp. |

i have the JVC mp3 player. it's good. kenwood has some very nice mp3 players. almost wish i bought a regular kenwood CD player with changer controls and just bought the 20 gig music keg. i'd never have to change CD's. not that it's bad having 125 songs on one CD as of right now
$600 after rebate http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin....o=m&a=0

A friend of my told me that there was a deal going on for the Song mp3 player at Circuit City.
I went and checked it out last week and the Song mp3 player was priced at $200 bucks. So, I compared that $200 bucks with the price at www.crutchfield.com and the same deck was going for $250. I'm not talking from experience but my friend bought it and he installed in his aunt's car. As you can see, I only used one other source as a comparison; however, I know my friend looked at 4 other sources and he concluded that the Circuit City was the best price. If you haven't found something yet, it's worth checking out. LOL, I just had to bite off whateverjames. |

nakamichi sources can be picked up fairly cheaply on ebay. you will ahve no complaints with one of those.
for mid range decks i'd say get an alpine, everythign they make is good. or clarion, the only thing clarion does well is decks and lcd's, they are poo for speakers. i have a base model JVC w remote, i want to upgrade to a mid range alpine soon. cd's skipping is a funny thing, mine never skips, but my buddy bought a brand new chameleon deck and it skipped all teh time. i think it has to do with the quality of the install, if you install it good it should skip at all. |

all I have to say is
alpine aLpInE ALPINE I have last years model & its GREAT. It displays song & CD titles that I can lable with my CD burner "My G/F has the 02 model & it does not display song or CD titles???" If you get the ALPINE head unit you can get the 6 disk changer that reads MP3's & it will fit in your glove box .Load your CD changer with 6 MP3's & you will have more music than MtV . Well, all I was going to say was ALPINE so I will leave it at that. Oh yeah ALPINE ALPINE ALPINE It has a blue display http://www.dragonswordmotorsports.com/Nissan....c1.html |

If you are looking for an Alpine with blue display and plays MP3/CDR/CDRW (it's also XM ready) here's the CDA-7995:
It's a bit pricey, because it's a preamp only deck, meaning there is no internal amplifier on the deck, so you need external amps for your speakers. A lot of people use these for competition systems. Only other Alpine I can think of that has the blue display is the CDA-7893, which does have an internal amp (60x4 VDrive), but does not have MP3 capability: Below is the deck I have...The CDA-7894 MP3/CDR/CDRW/XM/VDrive Amp (which, I don't use, but it's there ), only thing is no blue display, but it's a bit cheaper than the 7995:

Alpine...they are great. had one in my truck and it was the best deck i have ever had. the new ones are even better. i think the CDA-7893 is a blue faced deck...havent seen pics of it yet. but my choice would to go with CDA-7894. can get it on ebay for like 284.99-300.00. the deck i mentioned above has an internal amp and so does the 7894. dont go with, Blaupunkt, sony (well maybe there high end ones), or awia. all those are just shit.

I have the same deck as whateverjames, although they discontinued that model and switched to the kdsh-909. Excellent deck very reasonable (smilephotovideo.com). 7 volt preamp outs (3) 7 band parametric EQ alluminum face. Car Stereo Review rated it number one in sound quality and value.
......and it's pretty |
