I just recently put in a aftermarket clutch, a clutchmaster to be exact. anyways today as i was driving i noticed that it was starting to slip. Now its a brand new clutch with only 400 miles on it!!! what the #### is wrong??!! i let it sit for a few hours and now it grabs really hard like when i first put it in.  one other thing thats been bothering me is that the clutch grabs right towards the end of me taking my foot off the petal. most cars that i have driven in tend to grab almost half  way down <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'> please help people, i need to find out what the #### is wrong so i can find out what the #### i need to do.... thanks

Hmm, my car does the same thing. I dont think its an after market clutch, but a new clutch was installed just before i bought the car. It might be an issue with air in the lines.

Here's what i do to fix mine. Disconnect the the piston from the clutch petal, and move it arround in a circular motion. Then reattach it to the petal, and see if it engages back where it should. I know this sounds crazy, but give it a try, and see if it works. I do this every week, and the engage position keeps slowly moving to the top, until i "reset it".

Also, the top limit of the petal is adjustable, so you can move it up, to give you a bit of leeway to prevent slipage.

Okay, before weird info gets too far... Adjust the clutch rod. No need to pull it off like DuffMan suggested. Just loosen the lock nut, then turn the rod. Adjust it so that there is slight free play from when the clutch pedal is up top till it starts to engage on the spring plate.

i'll try that today, but i was driving it this morning and i noticed that i couldn't break the tires loose in first gear. i was rev at 3000 and i dropped the clutch and i got nothing. this is really upsetting beacuse i was able to do that with my old clutch with out any problem...

Btw adjusting the pedal position will only buy him a bit of time, not solve his problem.

My clutch also has the same problem of not fully engaging until the pedal is completely released, and I just got all the air out of my lines like a week ago, I just figured it was normal for a hydraulic.  While we are on the subject of clutches, what is the best brand? I am ready to buy a kit from ACT, ive heard its the best. thanks, see ya

You should check with the manufacturer, but with my ACT clutch i was told to break it in gently for the 1st 500 miles I believe. Guess the disc is a bit glazed over or something when its new and has to be worn down a bit.

I just put an ACT Street/strip clutch in my car and i love it. It was a little hard getting used to at first but after awhile it was well worth it. One quick question though if for some reason i didnt break my clutch in correctly and i need to replace it do i just replace the pad or the whole clutch assemply such as the pressure plate and everything else???

I know that with the OEM clutches you are suppsed to go 500 miles with "driving nicely"
