1989 Silvia with sr20det
I need help. I'm stationed in misawa Japan and I own a 89 Silvia. It came with a ca18det but was legally swapped to sr20det. I'm headed back to the states in a few short months. I'm wondering if it will be able to come I to the states since it's got an sr20 instead of the ca. It was all legally swapped and the title matches but the id plate says ca18de not sr20det. Anyone have any Input?ImageUploadedByTapatalk1403086545.848269.jpg

Officially the rules read that the car won't be legal under the clean air act. The clean air act reads that the factory engine has to be in the engine bay. Once the car gets here it can be swapped to w/e you want for the most part, but swapping it prior to importation could cause problems down the road with the EPA if they ever found out it was imported w/o factory conforming engine.
Yes people have gotten away with it and There is a chance you will get away with it, but that is how the law reads. Other than that, Month of build date you should be clear to roll through port.

I'm not a badge whore, but when you can buy an RB25 powered car with a balanced chassis that was engineered to work together for the price of building you another SR S-chassis... That should open up a whole new range of options. I wouldn't do it just because I'm not a fan of RHD in a LHD country, but if you didn't have that concern it sense like a no brainer to me.

Quote:
PS RB25 is the same deal with the clean air act. RB20 or RB26 in proper chassis is same deal.
