just 5 lug swapped my s13 and now my front drivers/rear pass calipers are smoking and/or stuck
brand new pads/rotors/and calipers and properly bled. Brake pedal gets stiff after a couple minutes of driving and starts to smell and smoke. any ideas?

This doesn't sound very 'jdm' of you, jdmmatt.

1.) It's Oregon so check the brakes for crack pipes.

2.) Check piston dust boots.

3.) Bleed brakes again.

Maybe trash in the lines or behind pistons... rebuild the calipers if they are 20 or 30 years old ?

Assuming everything is squared up / properly installed. The rotors should spin easily with the calipers installed before you touch the brake pedal, the rotor should be nice and flat, no trash under it, and properly torqued under the wheel. A slight misalignment anywhere and...

what calipers are you using now? s13? z32? CTSV?
where did the calipers come from? you said "brand new", so autozone? rockauto?

were the brakes functioning properly beforehand???

Pull the wheels off and unbolt the calipers. When you bolt them back on check if they are binding on anything and applying force on the rotors. You might have received the wrong rotors with an incorrect offset/rotor height.

JDM mat would know if there's something wrong with his buddy, JDM brake pedal.

s14 5 lug rotors from oreiliys. and yes brakes were perfect before.

S14 rotors are thicker than S13. If you're still running S13 calipers that might be the issue.

I think there's a difference between abs and non abs thickness as well.

Been a while since I dealt with this, so someone needs to fact check me. I remember running into the same problem, and I just had to get the correct rotors.

stupid question did you clean the rotors with brake kleen?? but if they are s13 calipers you might need to use some sort of caliper spacer.

its really hard to diagnose this issue, not having a record of whats actually what? so if you try all the things mentioned, I'd look at the piston in the brake booster. it is an IIRC an 8mm nut that can be adjusted in very small increments. Or at least, if you have the time look it up to see if it could apply to your issue.

Did you do anything with your brake booster? Almost sounds like your check-valve is getting stuck. If you can recreate the problem, try disconnecting the vacuum line upstream of your check valve on the booster side. If the brakes release, you've found your problem.

It may seat in each direction, but the check valve doesn't do what you think it does. It won't apply your brakes for you if you put it backwards.

Are the guide pins stiff with crud, or hydraulically/pneumatically locked on their grease?
