I really want to go to this, be the first event I've driven in. But I don't have a helmet. Does anybody know if there any place you can rent helmets from? Or buy SA95+ helmets for a reasonable price?

Also, Torrance isn't exactly close to me to get tech'd at. It's about 100 miles from me. Can I just tech the morning of?

hemlets...i got mine from this place in huntington beach. forgot the name tho.

try looking up scca ads for shops, or just use the yellow pages (motorsports shops).

or you can buy online if you know what size fits you. as for rentals, you either gotta know someone with a spare helmet (any of your friends ride a motorcycle?) or the event has them. Unfortunately club4ag don't provide loaners. But if you plan on more than one track event, buying a helmet is a good investment.

pruto,
Couldn't agree more about the helmet. I just am doing Z32 brakes right now, and I'm going to be tight for a couple weeks. But thanks for the advice, I'll look around.

I got mine from Solo Performance Specialties. Great prices, no tax to CA, and cheap shipping. I had good luck with them. Look them up on google.

whats up with drift days being so expensive nowadays????? you would think that with so much interest in drifting now, we would be able to have cheaper and more frequent drift days, but NO! they are becoming more expensive, wtf? and this is just for PARKING LOT courses! i would understand $100 for a full track and stuff, but geeez come on, $100 for a couple turns in a parking lot? i think its getting out of hand...wasnt the first one like $45? i understand that people want to make lots of money off of this, but come on, how greedy can you get? i mean the perfect example is Hawaii's DriftSession which is like $15 for a day and its on a track. but i guess thats the crappy thing about america, everything has to be turned into a money-making scheme.

well, heh, if you actually read the discription on the events (past and future), you'll understand why its so expensive.

DD4: didn't participate but was there to watch- $45, 2 small courses, IRC.

RSR (by club4ag): 2 J turns (one big and one small), + skidpad. $85

DD5: $100, 3 J turns, 2 skidpads, and one really friggen awesome course (EVERYONE loved it) with 4-5 good driftable turns.

DD6: $100, its listed as 4 courses, i'm guessing it will be the same layout as DD5, 1 huge course + 3 j turns + skidpad(s).

DD7: $100, features for the first time at DD's a course with a 3rd gear, 60mph+ turn. + the regular compliments of skidpads and j-turns.

did you actually go watch these events? the size of the lot used was a lot bigger for DD5 than DD4 or RSR/faulken event. You get what you pay for, time, better courses, instruction, and safety (bigger lot means less poles to run into).

i agree that it should get cheaper as time goes on, and more frequent, but other people needs to step up and offer more events. Club4ag holds as many events as they can handle, without competition, the price will stay the same as the demand is there.

Hawaii has the luxury of having a track to drift at, we don't really. We have to borrow/loan spaces at other venues, and that gets expensive. Drift will truely blow up when some sponsors decide to build a small track out here in socal. Until then, the limited resources/man power of club4ag will make it so the prices are high.

Oh, one more thing, the $100 is definately worth it. you pay for seattime. Take autocross in comparison (the only other racing events that use parking lots). $15-20 for 3-5 runs. That is about, oh, <5 minutes of actual seat time, plus you have to work for a full run group. at drift days with their current layout you get 2/3rds of the time as actual seat time (minus down time if car goes boom). thats roughly 4 hours. So called car "enthusiasts" and "racers" are willing to pay thousands for parts that makes their cars look cool/run faster but don't want to shell out a fraction of that to actually have fun with their cars legally.

well put Pruto!!! (see you sat by the way)

and dd5 was FAR more organized then any drift event out there (RS*R, DD4, Drift showoff, etc)....

the rotation now works GREAT and you get maybe 15 to 20 times on the track depending which layout (sometimes more) you want. this way, in the whole day of a 8 hour day youprobaly get near 4-5 hours outthere. more or les depending on you and the layout and if some dum dum hits something (but that's hard to do on a parking lot with very few poles)

and its no crap layout like long sweepers. the advanced courses are CHALLENGING! sometimes a bit into 3rd gear, sometimes top of second leading the drift into two more corners, sometimes tight left right left right left right ...so one
very difficult when you are keepign the line, the speed and compelte control. taka never ceases to amaze us. his layouts are most impressive.

anyways....pay to play. no cops no worries. compare 100 dollasr to a wreckless driving ticket..or exhibition of speed ticket....100 bucks is worth it.

that's why people have jobs.
100 bucks wont kill me.
and basically drifting is all about $$$ . no money no tires. no tires, no drifting. no money no new parts to fix broken stuff. drifting is all about money.

yea of course i'd like to cheaper. but until we get a track (like hawaii, they aer special deal w/ the owner of track) then we are out of luck. big willow doesnt like drifters
buttonwillow is very far and expensive to rent i believe
streets doesnt like drifters
norcal is expensive
so comes down to what we acn get and where.

its all about the $$$
one day hopefullly we'll get our own track and prices will drop...till then..get what we can.
its only like 1 to max 2 events a month..and usuallypay 100 per month for the coming month.its not horrible. a burger flippign job can afford that.

edit: that's why its good to get a sponsor..they help pay for a lot and if not for track fees, the repairsand upgrades are discounted. tire sponsors are my favorite.
