5th-Reverse Lockout?

I have my 5 speed tranny and it is totally disconnected sitting in my garage. My 5 speed swap is coming up and I was daydreaming of shifting and I can shift from 5th to reverse. Does anyone else have a 5 speed tranny that is not connected and just sitting and can you try to shift from 5th to reverse? I am just wondering if once the tranny is mated to the motor and ds if it locks it out. I hope so because it may seem stupid but I don't wanna mess up and shift into reverse from 5th. It would be greatly appreciated.

i dont think there is a lock out, i believe u can shift directly into reverse from any gear
but i could be wrong

but these cars are almost 20 years old....i doubt they have those kinda of "advanced" technology back then

my 91, locks out from 5th to reverse KA tranny... if that helps you and so does my 89... but thats a rb tranny...

whether its on or off the motor doesnt' make difference it should just lock out from 5th to reverse... its busted, but if it still works regularly other then the lock out... use it! or scrap it for a few bucks to the metal yard hope that helps

This is out of a DOHC. But are you sure because I don't have the time to swap everything to a manual and then back to auto? I will have a weekend to do it especially since school starts in about 3-4 weeks. Is it possible for a shop to check it out while it's pulled?
